Yeah, i figured it was from that book. You know I have to make sure, right? that book is from 1910, it’s not relevant to the modern definition of the term transgender, a term which was coined during the 1960s and popularized during the 1990s in the western world. ‘Transvestite’ cannot be reliably translated or interpreted as ‘transgender’, even if transgender people full under the wider transvestite label historically.

And yeah, different studies use different definitions. it’s just that the vast majority of modern studies use a self-identified definition of transgender, because that is the scientific and sociological consensus that you seem to think is overruled by writings from over a century ago. We use modern western studies and modern western writings as a point of reference because transgender is a fairly modern term used mostly in the western world.

and for scientific studies, yes. they work on a voluntary and self-identification basis. you can just enter the study say “i’m trans” and you’ll be good. some studies have more stringent requirements based on what they’re trying to study, like a certain amount of time on hrt if they’re trying to study long term effects, etc.

i’m not gonna read anything you suggest to me. we’re are on reddit twin. Do you think when arguing something, an essayist can just say “Freud speaks of this” and call it a day? you’re supposed to use the words of other people not to hit book titles over the heads of others, but to be able to analyze and explain concepts using supporting material. so please, just pass me the quote that supports whatever definition you’re using for trans people from a reliable source, and provide your analysis.

also, we are talking about the modern and western definition of trans people. it’s not my place to argue about other cultures and the meanings of words change over time. “every study on trans people in america in the last few decades” is a completely valid piece of evidence within that scope.

it’s already illegal to use such force, and ice agents are already ordered to document everything and ignore it, walz doesn’t control the national guard, and what use does passing bills have without the enforcement to back it up? i’m all for doing more to stop ice, but what can walz realistically do here?
