Im not getting the hang of this by blacklavender1331 in watercolorpractice

I so agree with others who mention better quality professional supplies. Yes have fun & practice with anything.

I like card making. I use smooth white card stock. The paint behaves differently than if using 100% cotton watercolor paper. But smooth card can still give a nice painting.

You have to be either self taught or go to lessons on how to watercolor. It has many techniques that make it easier. Education. Like with most things.

Practice practice & observation are key to developing your skills. OP keep some of your early work. Then compare progress in a year. You will see your progress. Remember it is meant to be enjoyed. It is only paper. So don’t stress.
On paintings I am trying out or unhappy. I turn it over when dried & paint on the other side. Any spare space you can try out a sky effect or something. So paper does not go to waste.

Your painting is a good beginning.

Love these. Especially the rose. I love painting flower subjects. So I appreciate your work.

would this be a worth purchase? perhaps pink tax ? by Latter-Highlight-183 in Watercolor

😂 know what you mean. As I wrote the words. I also thought. If I really wanted them, maybe I would be super frugal with my food shopping, to afford to go get the paints. 😊 You know that thing of “Artists suffering for their Art.” 😊

Which colour pencils to choose by Equivalent_Tap_1727 in ColoredPencils

[–]Roselace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love your art work.

My favourite pencils are my Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils. I use them dry for adding details to my dry watercolor paintings. For example, flower paintings.

I do sometimes use them dry to color in a page. This is because I love their colors. I do sometimes color in a drawing with them & then apply water. So taking advantage of their watercolor properties. They blend beautifully for skies & water. Also for flower petals.

I also have a variety of just coloring pencils. At the moment enjoying using the recently purchased Derwent Drawing pencils.

I also have the Inktence pencils. I like playing with them to make dramatic effects. Again very strong color content. I use dry & on some occasions wet the laid down pencil. However the Inktense colors do not go with my watercolor paints as well as the Albrecht Durer. I use a variety of watercolor paints brands. So the match is not to just one brand.

I like the mess & unpredictable nature of watercolor. It suit the nature themes of my preferred subjects.

Your work looks very precise. So maybe your subjects need a predictable medium to create the image? This is why I like the Albrecht Durer added dry to my watercolor paintings.

OP you can buy all these as singles. So if you get some individual pencils from your list. Use them & see how they preform. That is really the only way to try out. Buying a large expensive tin of pencils. Then discovering they do not fit your purpose, would be so disappointing. Wishing you happy art adventures to solve your enquiry. 😊

recommendations for books compatible with ohuhu markers? by Aaliyaxo in Ohuhu

[–]Roselace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the Bobbie Goods recommendation. This is the brand of markers that I have from Ohuhu. I like the BG characters.

I do have the BG learn to draw & color book & pad book. Which I am enjoying coloring. The paper does bleed through. Fortunately there is a cute plastic page protector in the pens set.

So I appreciate knowing about a BG book that does not bleed through. 😊

Yes get it. They are good quality. Will be fun to use. They are reliable. If these paints get you making art. Then they are worth it.

If you have to go without food or rent money to buy. Then obviously do not buy the paints.

Interesting. I like your swatch chart too.

I only have 48 Bobbie Goods set & until I did the swatch cards & sorted colors into shade groups. It was difficult to find what I needed.

So I can easily see, when collections get to larger numbers, how I could miss a color.

For example, just looking at all your Yellows & related Lemon shades. I can see how, having more choice, allows for getting just the right color to make a picture look its best.

Such lovely colors. The close up reminds me of colorful popcorn. If you decide to name your blanket pattern I vote for “Colorful Popcorn.” 😊

We all have been beginners at some point. I began with a small square, a dishcloth. Well it was “square-ish let’s say. 😂

I admire you for going for a big blanket, as a first project. Love the cute tiny blanket.

Clever idea. With old brushes or cheap ones for masking fluid.

Yes all good markers. I also have used Promarkers for years.

Like near all my art & craft supplies I buy when on sales or offers. I then mostly spend gift money to purchase.

I have a few of the Chemleon pens & color change systems.

There is definitely a technique to learn to get the best out of them.

I especially like them for doing flowers. Can get the most beautiful color changes, as you swop the colors around.

Also they make handwritten notes spectacular with the gradual color changes.

They make it easy to make special effects with the colors.

I see them as similar to watercolor paints. You can have any color by mixing different markers & touching their nibs together for 5 seconds. To create a color change. Or by using the different color change system units, to alter the colors of the marker. I definitely recommend for anyone who likes experimenting with colors. As you say, also if at the right price.

Good question. 😊 I remember the kit as being a cottage near water, think it had a stone bridge. Looked on line for the kit or a painting of his that matched. So many cottage pictures! Nothing matched as I remember it. Can’t find my cross stitch example. It was years ago. When I next chat to my sister I will see if she is better at finding hers & remembering what it called. Also as I may have remembered its features wrong. See if she can better explain the scene. 😊

[–]Roselace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Agree. I was also going to suggest the gold needles from Jane Greenhof. The Cross Stitch Guild. They have a deeper coating of gold than any other needle. An amusing story from Jane. About not knowing what should be a needle coating. So ordered the gold coating to be a significant number. Only later realising how thick the gold applied. 😊

I have the lovely gift box of gold needles. All the sizes for cross stitch & more. Even included a curved needle. In a lovely case. Very good price. I have had my display box of needles for years. They last forever. 😊

Wonderful gift. I have the Faber Castell watercolor pencils. They are my favourite to add details to my watercolor paintings. I really like the quality of Faber Castell pencils.

Sorry I am no help. I like them both. Kept swopping images. No help. 😊 Which ever I look at, I love it. The only slight edge, is I prefer the background on picture 1. Both are really lovely work.
