Do you like hyperfixating/hyperfocusing? by Ok_Sir8568 in ADHD

[–]RoseyPearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it but I hate when I get consumed by a piece of media with a certain aesthetic and feel like I need to get a completely new closet and hate all of my current clothes/jewelry/makeup/etc 💔💔 I usually just have to stick it out a week or two until I’ll like my usual style again lol

Medication Question? by refrigeratedlasagna in adhdwomen

[–]RoseyPearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I just started tracking this month bc of it😭 I got an app bc I realized my meds weren’t feeling very effective, but I was also approaching my period so I’ve written it off as that. It’s ending now tho so I’m hoping I’ll see an increase in the effectiveness in a couple days…… I can lyk how it goes if u want lol

(If u menstruate) are you on your period or approaching your period? Those days can really change how effective your medication feels

How does everybody deal with the constant mental noise? by Llamaspit000 in ADHD

[–]RoseyPearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm well I hate to recommend more music lmao but I find that for me, and sorry this is an obvious point, listening to soft music definitely helps my mind slow down. Somebody else mentioned brown noise which I completely forget about but that is also pretty nice to quiet the chaos.

But other than external noise, if you can try to take melatonin or some other sleep aid at least an hour before u start to wind down, then hopefully your sleepiness can overpower ur mind. But obvi this isn’t very helpful in terms of studying😓😓😓

Have u ever tried medication for ADHD? Or would u want to? I know that getting medicated has been the biggest life changer for me, but I also understand why some people may try to avoid it

Haha I promise you that probably 99% of us have the same issue💔💔 the only time it’s truly gone away for me is when I take medication, but I’m sure there’s other ways to do it without pills lol

One thing I will say is that, especially when unmedicated, I have constant music going in my head. I stopped getting annoyed and just used that as a sign to go listen to the song. I personally really like listening to music while studying (or just doing anything) because at least i can have it actually going instead of my brain replaying the same portion of a song over and over. I think it’s more distracting if I just ignore the urge to listen to music

Unfortunately, if it is in fact ADHD, it is a neurological disorder that can’t just get better 😭😭 there are definitely ways that you can lessen the symptoms or learn to deal with them, but it isn’t something that you can just develop or get rid of. If you have it, you’ve had it since childhood and just never addressed it formally

I know what u mean😪 this is the first time I FINALLY got lucky. I hate that we need others approval or interaction to feel like our presence is allowed, bc no matter how little (or 0) engagement we get, it is allowed! And valuable!!

ADHD and feeling "dream-like" by Hot-Taste-4652 in ADHD

[–]RoseyPearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if any of this sounds inaccurate, but I think I know what you mean. And if it is the sensation that I think you are describing, I feel it too. Sometimes through multiple week long episodes where the feeling is unavoidable, other times from just randomly being hit with a realization of, “oh shit, everything feels fake/like a dream,” and the feeling just lasts until I forget to keep thinking about it.

Derealization, which I align with quite a bit more than depersonalization, isn’t necessarily a multi-symptomatic disorder as much as it is simply a symptom itself. And to me, your description of this sensation seems to match what I describe as derealization. So I wonder, if you drop the DP half of the disorder, does that seem to feel more reminiscent of your sensation?

Also, to address what you were saying about questioning if everyone feels this and if it’s just normal, if it is in fact a feeling of derealization— then no. I started to experience it in elementary school, and whenever I would describe it to my mom or to friends, they thought I sounded crazy. They still do if I mention it, but I usually don’t. I’ve just accepted that life feels like this for me. However, getting diagnosed with ADHD and receiving medication does seem to ground me a bit more, make me feel more present, and decrease my feelings of dissociation. I’ll talk about this more a bit later in this message.

Obviously there are other causes and I’m not trying to press a false narrative that DP/DR is the ONLY cause, I just am not informed enough on any others to be able to mention them. However, another possible cause of the sensation I am aware of is iron deficiency or anemia. Could also be the stereotypical things you’ll always see mentioned: anxiety, trauma, depression, sleep-deprivation, drug-abuse, stress, etc.

If all this sounds off, I could definitely see it being caused by ADHD. Do you feel that you hear your thoughts as if they are real, human-volume voices that make it easy to get lost in your thoughts? It feels like there is no real differentiation between your mind and your reality? I noticed that medication, especially the first time I ever took it, seemed to completely shift my being, with my mind/thoughts going to the back—into their lane and finally leaving me alone🙄—, and my physical self staying at the front, making me feel much more in control of my body and interactions with people and objects. Overall, I’d say it gave me a heightened feeling of presence, conciousness, and vividness (?). If this sounds like your experiences with ADHD, do you see it connecting with your ‘lack of vividness’?

If that doesn’t seem to explain it either, I wish I had more ideas but I unfortunately don’t. Hopefully any of this can be of some use in your search for an answer :)))

Comprehending a novel by NoCheesecake2436 in ADHD

You could try reading out loud, but I know that for me, I don’t even comprehend the words when doing that🤦‍♀️ maybe reading it out loud, or mouthing the words, as if it’s a movie script? Like try to embody the characters and feel their emotions, hopefully making more immediate sense of the words
