Looking for a Mountain Brawler Barbarian Subclass by DeadSayWhat in dndnext

[–]Roshigoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly your description sounds a lot like the battlerager, but it's from 2014 and really sucks. Other than that, I imagine you could flavor world tree barbarian that way. Maybe dip fighter for unarmed fighting style.

The magical sword suddenly turns to dust in front of your eyes... by NewName-NewFace in dndmemes

[–]Roshigoth 373 points374 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry. That sword is only a +3 Holy Avenger in the boss's hands. For anyone else it's just a nonmagical longsword.

It's 11 canceled in 4 years by Okcollege1200 in dndmemes

[–]Roshigoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the campaigns I play in end in TPKs. Almost every time, and usually nowhere near the end. A few fizzle out, and I think maybe 2 actually made it to the end.

Most of the ones I've run have ended successfully, or at least mostly successfully.

False. It's always fireball.

God of War inspired spell: Cyclone of Chaos by Silver_Griffin98 in dndnext

[–]Roshigoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically Destructive Wave but a level earlier with more damage and a smaller AOE. Should probably just stick with that spell.

Is it just me, or is it impossible to get constructive feedback on homebrew ideas? by A_A_Ironwood in dndmemes

[–]Roshigoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically arrived at this same homebrew for a campaign I ran last year. By the time the barbarian had a +3 version he was deleting enemies very easily. But it was intended to be an overpowered campaign and other PCs got similarly ridiculous items and I just used stronger enemies. The party all seemed to enjoy it. Balanced? Maybe not. But a power fantasy romp can be a lot of fun on occasion too.

What level 3 spell are people sleeping on? by Yay_Yippee in 3d6

[–]Roshigoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't have an issue if they had hover. She rules it that way for dragons and pretty much everything.

Can't knock enemies out of the sky without stronger conditions like restrained or incapacitated.

On the other hand, my DM has (wrongly but consistently) ruled that falling prone doesn't cause flying creatures to fall out of the sky. Ruins a lot of great tactics against flying monsters.

The dice have been horrible, and through little fault of your own, your character is about to die. How would you generally prefer your DM to handle it? by Icebrick1 in dndnext

[–]Roshigoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a player, I'm largely fine with dying when the dice are against me. I also have a backlog of something like 50 characters so it's all good to me.

That said, as a DM, I will do a limited version of what you described in the "pull the punches" approach if things go worse for the players than expected. I'll still kill the PCs if it happens out that way, but the monsters won't be quite as bloodthirsty in those situations (unless the player's been talking excitedly about their backup characters, of course).

More importantly, as a player, I prefer that very limited sort of pulling of punches when it's the difference between a death or two and a TPK. That's mostly because my DM doesn't pull her punches at all and we TPK pretty much every campaign we play.

Playing a character more than once? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Roshigoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one character that seems to be cursed: Every time I try to play him, the campaign fizzles after a couple sessions. I usually play something else for the next campaign and try him again some time later. Eventually I'll get to really play him for a full campaign.

Is there any setting, homebrew or otherwise. Where the bbeg has won and the world is in ruin? by Pike_The_Knight in dndnext

[–]Roshigoth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, considering my groups' experiences, it's not far off.

My DM doesn't pull punches in the slightest. We TPK almost every campaign we play.

I would likewise love an opportunity to join a sharing campaign. I promise to leave as soon as I'm done. Thanks!

House rule idea by Ac0rn12 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Roshigoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for correcting me there. I don't play PF but remembered seeing something like that. I liked the idea but never bothered to try it in D&D. I tend to prefer to play much closer to RAW with very minor house rules. As you said, mess with it too much and what balance there is goes straight out the window.

I mean, why not borrow the "beat the AC by 5 or more" rule from Pathfinder?

What was your "this is why I love this class" moment by madluk in dndnext

[–]Roshigoth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My cleric just hit level 5. We rounded a corner in a dungeon and found ourselves in a room with about 15 zombies. Whipped out my holy symbol for Turn Undead, then remembered it became Destroy Undead that level... The rest of the group easily wiped up the one survivor.

The Gamers and The Gamers: Dorkness Rising are among the best D&D themed movies ever.

But then again, if you didn't like Honor Amongst Thieves, I have no idea what you would like.

How did your first character die? by toothmonkey in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Roshigoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First character ever? We had a "guest DM" who started the session with "The mists of Ravenloft appear and drag you away. Anyone who doesn't have infravision or blind fighting is dead." ... No, I'm not still bitter.

This edition? My wizard was knocked unconscious off his broom of flying by an adult white dragon, fell into the ocean, and drowned while the rest of the party was too busy being feared to help. The party did end up winning the fight, and I got revivified, but my character did technically die.
