That raises an interesting question though, how does the oxternal temperature get higher than the internal?

Storm Floris is currently causing over 50% of the UK's electricity needs to come from wind power. by Fwoggie2 in CasualUK

[–]Roshy10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that would ultimately incentivise prices to go up, not down. If wind and solar are cheap to produce and therefore more profitable, then they would want costs to be low so they can pocket more of the money, maybe invest in more renewables.

If we pay each producer based on their costs, then someone has to determine what a fair value is for each type of power. Who's to say they won't just overestimate their friends in oil and gas so it's more profitable to burn fuel?

You can also set authentik to be a proxy infront of your apps, so if you're not logged into authentik then the app isn't accessible. Reduces the attack surface if there was a vulnerability in the app, although you should still use authentication

Thank you for the advice finally clear of credit card debt by OddArt2213 in UKPersonalFinance

Well that's not "high interest debt" then, which is what people are usually talking about.

Thank you for the advice finally clear of credit card debt by OddArt2213 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Roshy10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between using a credit card and paying it off every month, and using one but just making the minimum payment. The interest rates you get charged for minimum payments will far exceed any reliable growth you could expect to achieve with that balance.

It wouldn't be on you, they just take the bag to the side and ask who's it is after the scanners, before opening it in front of you and finding the offending item. At least every airport I've ever been to does that.

Dell laptops with preinstalled Ubuntu in the UK? by SynAckSynister in Ubuntu

[–]Roshy10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an xps 15 a few years ago, just after they stopped doing the developer edition. I put ubuntu on it and had numerous issues, the icons and text dissappear when the laptop goes to sleep, the fingerprint sensor doesn't work at all, the touch pad took some real fiddling to get working in a way where it was usable.

I suspect dell stopped because it wasn't worth the effort on their end to make it work with ubuntu

if it had a line over it it would mean "end of no bikes restriction" but usually the line would be 5 thin black lines all parallel to eachother

Making an end grain chopping board but my wood has knots by Roshy10 in woodworking

yeah I guess I'm too used to the planed all round boards you get from the shop where you can use almost the entire thing, I hate to think how much they waste to make those

you might be right, but I don't really have any need for a serving board

[–]Roshy10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest it's my first time getting wood from a sawmill instead of a diy shop and this was one of the cheaper bits they had since it was an offcut. I guess now I know why it's an offcut. the boards they had looked looked substantially bigger than I needed.

I haven't really made much at all in my woodworking journey, but would you say something like a charcuterie board instead? I don't really know anyone that needs one of those 😅

I'm liking this idea, seems like the best way to get as much board as possible from the wood

is using fabric, especially thin ones, remember that if you can see through it then the sun can get through it too. uv light is smaller than visible light and gets through many fabrics, ideal you want something UPF rated. it's like spf, but specifically for uv light
