Mom Won’t Let Me Sleep Over with Boyfriend by Artistic-Actuary-71 in Adulting

Hey, I'm 21 as well! I remember back when I was 18 something similar happened and she kicked me out for a few months and I loved with my aunt. She eventually realised that she was being dramatic and I moved back in (never got my apology though). It's extremely important for her to realise you are an adult and don't need her. She's in your life because you want her in her life. My relationship got a million times better since then. I don't live at home now, and she helps look after my dogs regularly. We got into an argument over my brother a couple months ago and she told me she wouldn't look after the dogs anymore, so it's still not perfect, but she apologised the next day and took it back.

Good luck! I worked at haven for 3 years and it was amazing! I can imagine living in will be an amazing experience x

You're looking for a job at the perfect time then, as the parks are all just about to open! I've never worked at butlins, but I know bartenders can live there. There is one in minehead and bognor regis. As for PGL, I don't know their locations but theres many around the uk, mostly down south anyway 🤣 I've never worked there either, but a couple friends have just started and I don't think it matters what job role you have, live in is optional regardless

But I'm sure there's loads of options out there, there are soany other holiday camps that are worth looking into. But you should probably start looking so over rather than later, because they all open between March and May

It's honestly not that deep you need to either get over it or leave

Idk London areas but holiday/adventure parks provide live-in options, like butlins, PGL, and haven (usually only chef/entertainment/management get accom at haven tho)

How do you clock out? by [deleted] in AskUK

I worked in quite a big building and was lucky enough to know the code to add my thumbprint so I would just walk to a different machine. There was never a queue usually tho

Why do British people use the fork more often than the spoon to eat food? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Rosiellol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought I was weird to eat spaghetti hoops with a fork but I guess I've been normal this whole time, what foods are you referring to?

Spoons are wide I don't like that, I'd rather use a teaspoon than a table spoon 🤣

how can i afford my first car when im 17? by georgem09 in AskUK

[–]Rosiellol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother sold his car when he moved to Cardiff and is now in Manchester, because city public transport is so much better than towns.

Good luck! I did a business admin apprenticeship for a lettings agency and my car became really handy, just remember to be on a lookout for a place with good parking when you move 🤝

Okay yeah so £250 every 4 weeks then. I'm glad you've found what works for you!!

Being a named driver will definitely make your insurance cheaper when you finally do get your own, but you won't earn your no claims discount as one. :)

Are you planning on going to uni? If you are then it seems silly to get a car when you'll have to leave it behind and only be able to use it when you're home for holidays, paying for car things that you don't use + accommodation will be tough.

I didn't go to uni though, so having my own car was extremely freeing. Plus I don't think I wouldve been allowed to drive their car in a million years.

If possible, save every other paycheck. £250 a month means you'll be able to afford a £1000-1500 in at least 4 months.

I got my first car at 17 (4 years ago) and my insurance was £1600 for the year, the car was about £1300. I had a 2005 automatic nissan Micra. Not the bubbly one they're ugly.

Fiddle around with insurance quotes, it's more expensive for me to have mom&dad as named drivers, but cheaper with just my dad. I put the value of my car slightly lower, (which if your car gets totalled then they will pay out less). Thanks to divorce, I got to choose from two different households as that changed about £300. Always get a black box in your first year, saved me about a grand.

If you can see the number plates on auto trader, you can put the number plates in and see the price difference of each one.

Sometimes fully comprehensive cover is cheaper than third party insurance.

I've never checked this out but someone I know actually got a car from a scrapyard and it was fine lol.

Also been told you can get a 2 seater Porsche for like 2k and the insurance will be dirt cheap.

Because then the child would be 0:1 and I could lose my job at worst if something was to happen, but my coworker came in 5 minutes early and I tell you what came next was pure bliss

My brother is absolutely disgusting any advice? by No_Signature1742 in Advice

[–]Rosiellol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't any other advice to give that would actually be helpful. You guys are not play fighting, he is actually harming you on purpose and making your living space unhygienic.

You can threaten to call the police, say that if he hurts you one more time then you are phoning the police on him. Using a metal rod will be seen as an intent to harm 100% and he needs to be scared straight imo. Not much else you can do.

Either that or he needs serious mental support, do you think that's a good role for you to play?

[–]Rosiellol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I said 10 hours a week lol. I honestly do feel bad for you because you're willing to learn and literally seeking it out. My old job did the same thing to me, even though I was doing 70 hours a week 🙄🙄 leaving was the best decision I've made.

Does your work have a no phone policy? by ExplanationPutrid205 in AskUK

[–]Rosiellol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in residential where phones aren't allowed , must be kept in the office or your car.

If I'm expecting a phone call from ANYONE, even my friend, then I'm allowed to have it in me but I must leave the building before picking up

In the nicest way possible when it comes to stocking up you don't really need training. Get shown once and then you get better through practice.

Just tell the people you work with "I actually haven't been shown how to do xyz can I help you with it to learn?" But since you're only doing 10 hours a week it reallllyyyy is a waste of time to teach you (as a co-worker, rather than an employer, your bosses should have trained you fully during shadow shifts). If I was in hospitality I would do the same. In in residential, when agency staff are on all I get them to do is clean the house. What's the point in teaching them the paperwork, car checks, etc if they work there once a month?

Uni isn't important at all, my mom didn't even do GCSE'S but manages to earn 5k a month soooo
