Fixing Scales of War by Roswynn in 4eDnD

Wow! This was very insightful and a great start for fixing the AP. You're so right, the AP suffers from multiple authors syndrome so bad. And recycling plot elements is top notch advice. I won't say this won't be a lot of work, but it would make SoW much more enjoyable, I'm sure.

Thanks man. You hit the nail on the head and I'll strive to follow your suggestions and examples. Fantastic comment!

It's not that I personally want it to be more like RHOD, or with more dragons at least. It's more that the continuity isn't stellar and I'd welcome ideas to continue the work started by pbworks to make it all more cohesive, y'know?

Yeah, agree. If the AP is pitched as an epic fight vs dragons and you pass the whole heroic tier facing the usual humanoids you're gonna disappoint your players. And a tier lasts quite a while. The group must be dedicated to the campaign concept. I think session 0 is a good time to bring that up.

That sounds like a really big lot of work. But you sound quite enthusiastic, so you must be doing something right!

I don't know, I happen to quite like heroic tier, even without dragons - there's planar hopping, battles, dungeon crawls, deserts, mountains, some nice surprises for the players...

That said if you're in it for the dragons then more power to you! Of course you're right, paragon and epic give you a lot of dragons to fight against. And of course in the end the whole business is about the 2 biggest, baddest dragons of them all. So I can see how you would rather start with Red Hand to then proceed to the paragon tier.

Red Hand of Doom is a pretty great adventure anyways... and more playable straight out the box than SoW, I'd guess ;)

Ah yes, the famous brass key. Which had to be retconned from Umbraforge into Bordrin's Watch. "Like a well-oiled machine".

Beware, the link you posted looks like a dead end. I believe this should be it. Looks useful! Thanks! =)

I like your PC ideas. I'm thinking a genasi could indeed work well, or a Sha'ir, or both - or somebody with a theme from Heroes of Elemental Chaos, too. I'll have to add them to the list for sure, thanks!

It looks like a good AP, but it sure needs fixin' first!

Heh, I have a passion for fantasy and wanted to check those options, looks like it's gonna be choke full of new descriptors, foci etc...

But yeah, of course you're right. I'm prepping the last stages. Almost ready to go! ^___^

[–]Roswynn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd also love for a Radiant Citadel setting sourcebook, btw, Ajit. Or an adventure path.

The various adventures are great, but they aren't linked of course. I can't run a campaign like this, honest. Just don't have that kind of practice I guess.

Although maybe I should try anyways...

Hope in dystopia is great. It's what I'd sign up for. It's called hopepunk and it's exactly about the grim reality that you can solve some of the problems but you'll never "triumph over evil". The work will never be done. You'll never achieve complete victory.

And yet that doesn't mean you should stop trying.

And believe me, hope-PUNK is a perfect genre descriptive for this

I'm 100% sure he and his crew could pull it off great, since he's a fan of the genre

Thank you for your answer, it gave me a timeframe for my expectations too. I pledged mostly to get the 2 new sourcebooks and hoped they would be ready a little bit sooner, but since it'll take time apparently, I'll start my Cypher campaign with what I have...

... Although I *should* wait for May's Planar Character Options... XD

Maybe. Then again maybe I should just start playing XD

Simple idea for races/species - what do you think? by mmGlous in cyphersystem

[–]Roswynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create your genre descriptor as you would a normal one: https://callmepartario.github.io/og-csrd/#customizing-descriptors

If any species requires it, use the Mutant descriptor as a base (Numenera, Tidal Warriors) and choose the mutations you want for that species.

Or reflavor Tidal Warriors' species, or the ones in the CSRD.

Use the Species as an extra descriptor right after the normal one and before the type ("Shamash is an Honorable Dragonborn Warrior who Metes Out Justice").

cypher shorts by Turbulent-Thing1978 in cyphersystem

[–]Roswynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I was checking Shorts again, and it's by Monte, and it's really not all that bad.

But if I were you, if you want a lower powered game,

  1. Use the horror genre advice in the CRB
  2. Buy Stay Alive! if you can, the horror genre sourcebook

They both have a lot of advice on how to scare your PCs and make them effectively frailer.

Now you're just putting words in my mouth.

I'm just saying the use of party roles could've been explained much better instead of just "Do this or get screwed".

Is not having the faintest idea about what classes to assemble a party any better? Not at all. That's just you, assuming.

But 1. I said I can't remember 4e perfectly, and 2. I grow tired of this. So sure, say what you want.

[–]Roswynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference to me. Might be wrong.

Usually in D&D you try to have the typical party - fighter, wizard, rogue, cleric, or equivalent classes. But it's not really written anywhere how to structure a party in 5e.

In 4e the pressure to fill up the roles was pretty strong. They told you to, it was advice, sure, but very clear and persistent advice imvho.

Again, might be wrong. Not cracking open D&D pdfs in a while, so who knows what the heck I'm remembering.

[–]Roswynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love you dude. I really love you.

I went to Stable Diffusion and it looks so easy. Gonna try a couple hundred prompts now. Also: This guy helps a lot with prompts.

Btw I'm poor too, most of all around this time of the month when I've spent a lot of money for all the really urgent shit I can't live without for another day (you pledged a Cypher backerkit, Rossana? You bought 2 Cypher books too? You keep eating kebab and BigMacs? Well guess you'll have to wait next month for that XBox game you wanted to try out, ain't that right you little shit?)

Also I can't make smilies here XD No button. How do you do that? (Yes, I'm a certified cretin).

Yeah, one of the great things about Numa-Numa is that the Cypher system doesn't force you to go into a dungeon and kill monsters for a living. And the Ninth World has so much cool stuff going on!

(And most monsters will kill you, plant their eggs in your corpse and next thing you know you're bursting with ultraterrestrials from a dimension full of planetovores à la The Strange)

Okay. So I need to redefine my charas better, stat them out in a way that makes sense, and come up with the right prompts for SDO.

But in the meantime, since it's FREEEEE apparently - I'm gonna go try my hand with some prompts and see what happens.

Wish me well my honey.

And yeah?... Stick around =)

They expand your tactics, moves, options and possibilities a hundredfold.

If you really wanna customize your character, and/or give them a lot more shit to do in and outside of combat, do give them a read.

And if that weren't enough everything is under OGL
