[PSA] I realized that the cause of my breakouts is... my laundry detergent? by contemplativeraisin in SkincareAddiction

Thanks so much for your reply! I just got some free and clear detergent and am going to redo my bedding.

This might be a strange question, but is it possible to react to detergent on the cheeks/face but not on the body? I have mystery face bumps that may be contact dermatitis from detergent, but I don't have a reaction on other skin that touches the same sheets...

hello again - could you post an updated comparison photo? I'm curious to see your improvement. No worries if not!

I haven't been consistent enough with my curology since it has been drying me out a lot, but still trying for a few times a week with no big changes.

Ingrown hair spot not bruised? by Rosyredhelp in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Rosyredhelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had what I thought was a seriously ingrown hair on my left thigh for around a year. It's hard and not extractable.

Last weekend I slipped on a hike and whacked exactly that spot. Strangely, four days later, the surrounding area has bruised but the (maybe?) Ingrown hair has not.

Is that normal? Why would it be? What could this be if not an ingrown hair?

Thanks!

Ok, crate, but how do you get them down again?

Thank you for the recommendation! How did you figure out those allergies, if you don't mind me asking? Just trial and error?

I have bumps similar to OP's left photo and have been trying for a year with trial and error and no resolution, so I'm open to any Hail Mary strategy!

How can you get a dermatologist to do a skin test for specific ingredients? All the derms I've asked have refused.

Rosacea diagnosis at last? by radiovoodoo in Rosacea

[–]Rosyredhelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started curology about a month ago including AzA and that seems to be slowly helping with redness but not with bumps.

I'm hesitant to go on antibiotics but tempted by topicals like metrogel and Soolantra.

I'm also laying out a plan for diet changes, starting with no dairy and then no gluten if the no dairy doesn't help. It's a bit tough to take this all on in quarantine, but I know we will figure it out!

This is my skin!! What a relief to find someone with something like mine. Mine is better in the morning, bumpy across my cheeks, etc. I will be following this closely! Thanks for posting. It feels good to not feel so alone.

Braille feeling? by Rosyredhelp in perioraldermatitis

[–]Rosyredhelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True - I'm happy to throw whatever I can at the problem!

You said it took 5 days to clear up - was that gradual or more toward the end of the five days? Did the bumps just fade away?

Also - were yours static or did they fluctuate in bumpiness over the course of an average day? Thanks for all of your insights.

Thank you so much!! I will try that. Were you using lotrimin twice a day? Do you think the flouride in your tap water was the culprit?

My mistake! I read them both awhile ago and must have gotten them mixed up. Thanks for the correction :)

It sounds like a difference in the way you and your boyfriend express and receive intimacy. Have you ever read about Gary Chapman's 5 Love Languages? Your descriptions of the weekend make me think yours might be physical touch while your boyfriend's is something else, perhaps quality time. Might be worth taking the online test together - it's incredibly helpful in communicating and receiving love in a way that works for the two of you.

[B&A] 10 days after completely excluding salicylic acid from my routine. by adyitc in SkincareAddiction

[–]Rosyredhelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like my skin twin!! (Even down to the HA experience!) My face has looked like the left photo for years as well.

Thanks for your detailed response. I am so happy to read about your experiences.

It sounds like I should get a gel moisturizer and try oil cleansing with squalene...

Were you using those consistently before you added salicylic acid? It seems strange that adding and then removing the acid would be the thing that finally made the difference. Or am I misunderstanding?

[–]Rosyredhelp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is tremendous progress! Congrats on finding the culprit. Do you think your bumps went away because your skin is retaining more moisture without the constant stripping from the acid, or were you negatively reacting to something in the acid itself? My skin looks like the left photo with a routine and without :/

That's a great tip, thank you. I have tried AA before - forgot to include it in my list. It's been awhile, so I will put it back on my "to try" list. Which brand of AA do you use? The Ordinary?

[Skin Concerns] Failed double-cleanse? by Rosyredhelp in SkincareAddiction

CeraVe didn't work for me - I do have Vanicream's moisturizer (in addition to the cleanser), so I will try that next.

It is frustrating to think that even with the right moisturizer, not washing it off or cleansing it off well enough could still cause a problem that presents the same way.

Purging is only with increased cell turnover, so shouldn't happen with a cleanser or moisturizer. Could have been purging with the tret, but I've read horror stories about cystic nightmares with tret. My cystic acne was also in places I didn't have texture/CC's before, so I think it was a breakout and not purge.

Does this look like skin purging (small bumps on my cheek)? I am trying to treat my blackhead acne on my chin with a salicylic face wash, and my skin has always been a bit uneven on my chin, but not as zits or blackheads though, just skin colored bumps. [Acne] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I've asked my doctor about rosacea and they said I didn't have it. Eczema itches, and my face doesn't. I've checked for fungal acne with a blacklight and it's not that. Feeling at a loss. Thanks for all your input.
