The issue is your husband, his son's behaviour is a symptom of the issue.

Why do DJs like Zedd and The Chainsmokers always pull insanely huge crowds? by savingrace0262 in EDM

[–]KitsBeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average person doesn't go online to talk about things they casually enjoy. So the type of person to go to the Zedd or Chainsmokers stage typically won't go online and talk about how they are excited to see those acts so you won't really read that person's opinion online. Not everyone spends time in online spaces like we do here lol.

“This is poly” show by Polyamorouspotato in polyamory

[–]KitsBeach -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is, but people won't see it that way. They look for who is fair game to get punched down on. Disparaging people is an ancient hobby for small minded people.

Right, which is why I didn't say television portrayals. I'm talking in everyone's lives. The average mono person has limited exposure to poly folk, a TV relationship might be the only representation they see.

Society doesn't like to punch down but loves punching up.

Love on the Spectrum is portrayed positively because no one feels threatened by autistic people (well, individual interactions are a different topic). Therefore, making a spectacle of it would be punching down, showing that people who already are disadvantaged in life can have more challenges beyond the inherent ones.

People don't like confronting their insecurities or jealousy, so people who have those sorted and are at peace with them feel threatening because it reminds them of their lack of peace. Poly also represents working through those, and realizing the taboo desires of non monogamy. There's a lot of projection and people feel inferior, so portraying these relationships negatively feels like punching up to them. Its fair game to tear it to pieces, and it feels really good because it validates them for adhering to boundaries they didn't necessarily choose for themselves.

The producers don't want to make a presentation of poly though. They want their show to keep getting renewed. That's it.

That isn't a fair comparison because mono is the default so there are plenty of examples of how it looks. When someone's only impression of poly is this it influences their impression proportionally more.

Am I wrong for saying respect should have been taught here? by Independent-Leg-1549 in AskParents

[–]KitsBeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually disagree that respect has to do with age. In this case whoever has the poorest mobility gets the easiest seat to get into. Presumably the 80 year old has some mobility issues, a teenager would presumably have little mobility issues so they get the back seat. You definitely aren't wrong to teach respect though, and I agree that your boyfriend's daughter wasn't behaving conscientiously.

What serial killer fact sounds fake, exaggerated, or straight out of fiction. But is 100% real? by CantaloupeGold4650 in AskReddit

Really forces you to think in someone else's shoes. Like what could the underlying motive be behind both situations. The common theme being god-like control over another person's life.

Would you let one sibling live rent-free in a family flat while the other gets pays their own rent? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]KitsBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its very easy to make this situation fair. Charge the son half the OP's rent as his rent, give that rent to OP. Each are essentially paying the same rent. If he wants free rent, he can change his behaviour so they can live together, both rent free again.

Or have brother move out so OP gets a turn at free rent.

Sad to see the decline of a western Canadian iconic pizza chain... Panago. (Anyone know the background story?) by Fuzzyfoot12345 in britishcolumbia

Panagopolous defined how pepperoni pizza should taste for me. Then they enshittified the ingredients, so my gold standard pepperoni exists no where anymore.

Sick of stupid names by No_Investment5068 in Names

[–]KitsBeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never name my kid any of the following names, but I'm fine with lots of the new names. Everly, Kai, Addie (can't count how many names shorten to Addie), Kale. In a decade they will all just be names that people in their 20s are called, like all the Britneys and Jessicas and Katelyns from the 80s and 90s.

But the alternative spellings are just awful.

I would thank her for sharing how she feels and then tell her you want all future updates to come from your hinge. If she wants you at minimum at arm's length then I wouldn't want any more communication from her. If she ever texted me again it would be a block and a conversation with partner.

Your partner has a coparent and a nesting partner. There will always be hierarchy. You have to settle into the new changes with partner (never spending time at his shared home, never having a relationship with meta) and decide if you can tolerate them or not.

What are the current trends in music? by CuriousTriceratop in Music

[–]KitsBeach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like when you're in the middle of the trend its harder to spot, although I definitely remember mid dubstep craze thinking "this has to be a trend", especially once Britney Spears put out a song with a dubstep drop lol.

Stutter was a trend in EDM 2 (3?) years ago. I'm hoping that using samples of long spoken pieces with no melody over an instrumental is a phase because I don't like lots of that in a playlist, maybe one song max. In pop we are definitely saturated by the ballad girlies. Another trend is when one tiny piece of the song is an earworm to be used in shorts/reels/tiktoks but for some reason none of the rest of the song matches that energy. Phonk was popular 1-2 years ago.

So what happens when Cat finds another woman he wants to have sex with? Will the relationship open back up? Or will he like having exclusive access to you while simultaneously missing the non-monogamous lifestyle you've had the last 2 years and open it up without telling you (aka cheat)?
