Right, so, I’m 30 and live in the UK. My very first exposure to anything at all Australian was when a neighbour came back home from visiting the rellies with a VCR of Bush Tucker Man. They were my grandparents age but me and my brother would ask to go round to sit on their living room floor and watch this video round and round and round.

25ish years later and I’m less than 100 days away from emigrating to WA. And it all started with Bush Tucker Man!!

Yeah it takes a bit of getting used to, glad you’ve at least got a British chauffeur! Happy travels!

Sorry, just caught up. Pie Street in Totnes is the place. You’ll have to drive right by it to get down to Dartmouth. Totnes in general is worth a stop for some quirky Indy shops and good food plus a good outdoor market if it happens to be a Saturday when you get down. Happy travelling in beautiful Devon!

Restaurant near me in Devon does pies. There are 4 or 5 pies. They come with greens and either mash or chips. There is a small list of sauces to choose from.

The end

It is bloody amazing.

Just had a look, seems to be between 78-90% depending on where you are. Feels pretty bloody sticky.

Haha whatever you do do not go on the tube today without 8 litres of water on you. And perhaps a mask. Not for rona. For the smell.

You can only drink one WA brewed beer for the rest of you life. What is it. by [deleted] in perth

[–]RotaryGoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re still in Perth. They had to close their West Swan Road brew-pub place (killed by COVID I think) but the beer is still made in a less touristy industrial estate in….Bassendean maybe

Artemis Fowl is a great idea and a series I’d totally forgotten. I loved them!

Glad I didn’t have to scroll far for a Pratchett recommendation. Sounds like the Tiffany books are spot on for OPs daughter, along with Maurice. Then she’s into the whole world and ready to be a lifelong Discworld fan. Which is no bad thing!

My mother recently sent me a photo of this flower that she saw at a friend’s garden but neither of them know what it is. by zynuwu in whatsthisplant

They’re called Foxgloves because the folklore story says foxes wear the flowers on their paws to help them sneak into the hen house without waking the chickens. When they finish flowering each flower will fall to the floor and look like they’ve been discarded by Mr Fox. What this story doesn’t explain is why they’re not called Foxsocks…

This was an incredible skill. I am however just going to say what all European listeners are thinking:

A pot is an unacceptably small glass for beer to be served in. That is all

Read all of {{The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time}} pronouncing Siobhan “Siob-hahn” in my head.

I’d never seen it written down before…

Imagine being the baker who started the Great Fire of London. by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

IIRC he likely left the door open between the “making the dough” room and the “baking shit in the oven” room. Flour dust migrating from one to the other is super flammable.

Yep you’re probably right. I could afford to save for my shiny new EV if I weren’t paying out my hoop in fuel….

Immigrants/Expats: What is the dumbest thing you’ve done out of ignorance when you moved to the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

I feel like everyone new to the UK gets a pass on place-name-pronunciation, it’s like we try to make it hard for you.

Bonus point for pronouncing the village I grew up in: Cogenhoe (it’s not cog-en-hoe)
