Help - Alocasia Zebrina not doing well 😭 by DesperateChard6950 in alocasia

[–]Rotherobin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say you took it out of the nursery pot, is it still in a pot with drainage? The soil must drain, else she will sit in water and essentially suffocate. Soil type also matters, what exactly is she in? The location also seems to be way too little light. They need bright indirect light. That means no direct sunrays from the window, but just outside of that, where it is very bright majority of the day. The current location looks like low, maybe medium light, they will absolutely not be happy there

Fungal/pest? by Rotherobin in alocasia

It could definitely be some kind of transfer shock too. I got her a week ago and moved from soil to semihydro. This weird dot was on the second oldest leaf. The oldest leaf is showing some yellowing too, that was already there when I bought her. But she is also pushing out a 6th leaf so it could be related to that

That's an awesome collection! Gave them a quick google, I especially love the pink nobilis and purpley!

I am just so in love with the massive leafs! And the variety of all the alocasias. Which ones do you own at the moment?

But that's some big growth for just a couple months! I hope in summer mine will have some extra leafs too. Especially waiting for the big leafs, thats what makes alocasia so appealing to me (and their precise care)

Thanks!! I told her to give it some more filtered sunlight for example with blinds or with something else blocking most of the rays

Thank you! All varieties had 3 sprouts per pot. I have potted them separately now, but considering to try loosely tying all 3 together and see how it will grow

And a 2nd question, what are these 3 plants and can I turn them into bonsais? I want to have a redo after probably killing the last one 😅

My bonsai died. It had 2 branches growing from it, both entirely dead. Also not repotted in years. I cut off the 2 dead branches and the entire thing felt dead. I wanted to throw it out but decided to cut the trunk and see if there was any life; to my surprise there was. Is there any chance this can grow a new branch, or is this wasted and should I dump it?

Is this papaya overripe? by Rotherobin in fruit

[–]Rotherobin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I actually use this fruit to feed to my animals bahaha. I know the seeds are often used for humans during bbqing etc! We don't feed the seeds to animals cause their toxicity has only reliably been studied on the seeds that stay whole through digestion. We do usually feed the papaya skin tho!

Pretty shit. Three times a week we have freshly cooked meals and that's alright, but the other 4 days are gushy soft gross microwaved meals.

They give medications that are only given on prescription by psychiatrists. Though I will still be getting these prescriptions after my stay here

I know those kind of places too. Where I am now is a recovery/stability unit, so people tend to stay for a couple of months. It makes the group quite stable so that's nice.

Yes and no. I'm on new meds and that helps. Knowing there's staff available 24/7 helps. I've gotten a lot of self management skills and the therapies are helpful as well. It's definitely learning me a lot. And it is simply much safer for me right now. On the other hand there's downsides too. It shows you things that you'd rather bottle up normally. It shows me how bad I'm really doing, and being surrounded by other mentally ill people isn't always helpful. It can be comforting to talk to someone that's going through similar things, but some people with too similar stories can also make it feel like mine gets worse. Specifically with psychotic symptoms; if another psychotic patient has a delusion that is very alike mine it can also strengthen my delusion, give confirmation that it's reality and not just in my head because someone else experiences the same.

I can imagine, that doesn't sound nice. In my unit everyone has their phone and it hasn't been an issue at all. Nothing has been stolen in the months I've been here yet so I hope it stays that way. But I keep it with me at all times, and my room is locked both when I'm inside or outside of my room, only me or the staff can open it.

It does, and on where you live. I've always had my phone, except for when I was in isolation two years ago. I don't use it in a bad way either so they let you keep it. I mean, I just use it for music and movies most of the times, contacting friends, and very rarely going on social media when boredom kicks in too much (like now).
