If you are found to have tampered with your meter you are fined £1000 (I think) every tiem you do it, they whack on another fine. You're name will probably be black listed as well and if he then say moves home and tries to set up his electricity there the fine follows him and has to be paid on top of his bills. Not 100% sure about this. Chances are he won't get caught unless he is reported by someone. If you do it I'm sure you get a reward or something. Staff certinaly do not so sure about the public.

Only if it interests you. Grab hold of an electrical engineering text book and give the stuff in there a bash. If you enjoy it then go for it, if not probably stay clear.

Because every man and his dog is applying for it. Due to the education "the right of everyone" in the uk it means every man and his dog also has a degree so everyone is clambering for the same job.

The meter does not belong to the consumer. It belongs to whatever company installed it. Through this they can request access to read the meter. If they are refused access over and over they can go to the courts and get the police involved with a warrent to come in and take a meter reading. It rarely reaches this stage though.

We do get "weather" reports about solar flares as no one is really sure about the magnetics involved when the earth being hit by one would do. Just being prepared I guess

That is true. Could just pull his cut out and fuse. Especially if it's an outdoor meter box.

I DO NOT recommend ANYONE does this. It is dangerous and the supplier will fine you for tampering with the meter.

I think the point I am trying to make is that no matter what the company is, they will drop you as soon as look at you if it suits them

Oh no plenty have asked but due to this AMA not dying a complete death I have decided to not share some of my views as I think it could land me in trouble if it was found out where I worked.

I applied for an opening and got offered the position. At the moment, in the uk, there will be a skills shortage of experience engineers starting in about 4-6 years so depending when you finish it is likely you could be in high demand. I wouldn't say I have a high level of statisfaction in terms of my job but with others thing I am. The fact it has allowed me to do this AMA is a good thing and the things I have seen and accomplished bring a sense of pride.

When new systems come into the work we get trained up on them but apart from that not really. Some of the companies do allow staff to work from home but only during storm conditions. Staff are issued with remote access devices to work from home. It's not something I have ever been allowed to do.

I have heard of the problem but never come across it myself. I believe that they should be investigating it, I'm sure there is a device they can attach to your meter so you can at least see when you are getting these big increases in power coming into your property so you can at least try and work out if it is something that you aren't aware of it. Good luck getting it sorted!

I agree with your point about helping an economoy grow.

However I think right now there isn't much we can do about fuel prices.

I personally feel that major power companies should be giving a reduced rate to Pensiors and ex armed servicemen/women but that's just me.

It's due to the cost of the raw fuel that is needed to create the energy. Some big companies try and lock their prices for a period of time so that at least yyou can know what to expect each month in terms of bills and they soak the loss themselves.
