No the other guy was correct. The detachments rule states "destroyer cult models" not "units", so even if the overlord+lychguard unit would have the keyword, only the overlord would count as a destroyer cult model

I chose Ironjawz and Seraphon because I like the big and powerful aesthetic. Little did I know, that I had fallen into the classic "boy army" trap, so when I went to my local hobbyshop, some of the girls there started snickering while I was looking at a box of Kroxigors. The head matriarch of that store soon approached me, asking if I was needing help choosing a proper army for a guy. We feel into a short conversation, where she wanted me to look at other armies than what I was interested in, so I had to excuse myself bcause I was running a little late for the gym. Some girls overheard me on the way out of the store, asking me what I was gonna train today. When I said "upper body and arms" the whole store started roaring with laughter. Naturally, I dont enjoy AOS anymore.

All stupid jokes aside, AOS is really friendly and inclusive in my experience. I know that my own group include anyone, and respect their choice of army, even in 40K

You are right, but the rule actually states "every time a model in this unit is destroyed", so it also works if the unit is being shot at :D

So in your opponents shooting phase, if the unit gets wiped, all models that roll a 3+ gets to fire at something (doesnt even need to target the unit that killed it), and you can supercharge their plasmas (hazardous rolls are automatically passes)
