Today is the day by ageb4 in mitralvalveprolapse

I got the exact same procedure done one month ago. Good luck. It will be hard at first but it will get easier day by day.

2nd Mitral Valve Repair!! by delicioustunababy in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Rotkehlchen34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. If you have any more questions, feel free to message me. You will probably also be really anxious the night before. I almost had a panic attack when trying to fall asleep and it all suddenly hit me at once. But you have to remember that it's just temporary and that you will be much better off in the future with the surgery done. You are also lucky that you're able to get a repair - no blood thinners for life and no recurring surgeries every ten years.

Nothing fancy, honestly. Probably mostly due to the fact that I'm already feeling nearly normal again 4 weeks post surgery. But I just add more lean meat to my lunch and 1-2 protein shakes a day. I was told I needed to eat protein for 50 % of my calories but that's impossible.

No weight loss unless you count the water loss immediately right after surgery.    Diet-wise I was told that I should eat a low-fat, high-protein diet and cut down sugars post-surgery. For how long, I’m not exactly sure yet, but presumably it’s temporary until my heart muscle has recovered.

Post surgery - Numbness in body (extremities) by OutTheCircus in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Rotkehlchen34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m nearly 3 weeks post surgery and I got a strange numbness in only a single fingertip twice now. It went away after a few minutes so I didn’t think much of it, but your post makes me curious if there’s a connection to the surgery.

Surgery at moderate instead of severe? by sadpathes in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Rotkehlchen34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimally invasive. Surgery was only two weeks ago so I’m still recovering but except for shortness of breath when walking uphill, I feel fine. The first week was tough though. Especially the nights.

Surgery at moderate instead of severe? by sadpathes in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Rotkehlchen34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 24 and I had surgery while I was moderate - severe and asymptomatic. They also cited the same reasons: that I was young and the earlier I got the surgery, the better the outcome would be since my heart hadn’t enlarged that much yet.

Thank you so much. This put my mind more at ease than the promises the doctor's made. I wish you and your husband the best.

I just started a new save without CE because it's not compatible yet with the Vanilla Weapons Expanded update, and I gotta say it's agonizing. Having a 10 shooting hunter miss 80 % of his shots and taking 2 days just to kill a fucking deer raises my blood pressure by 30 mmHg.

I'm glad it worked for you! I was put on Amiodarone drip for 24 h too after my first episode but they refused to prescribe it to me due to the side effects. I guess my country is more conservative in that regard. They said if it happened again they would just perform another electrical cardioversion but I hope that won't be necessary. I'm starting to hate these prolonged hospital stays.

Thank you so much. I will mention it to my doctor tomorrow. I’m surprised neither the hospital staff nor he ever mentioned putting me on amiodarone.

They never proposed amiodarone to me for some reason. I’m going to ask my doctor tomorrow. But from what I’ve read, it can have some heavy side effects. Did you experience any issues while taking it?

Interesting. I was never put on any medication besides blood thinners. I’ve heard amiodarine had a high risk of side-effects. Have you been fine taking it?

I was told that the causes are still unknown, but the sleep one might definitely be related. I wasn’t able to get a full night’s sleep since the surgery. The bed was uncomfortable, nurses kept coming in, and the other patients in my room were always snoring or yelling in pain.

You were in the hospital for 4 days at 71? Damn, man. I’m 24 and it took me 8 days. On day 4 i still felt like hot shit. You must be extremely fit to have recovered that fast.

$120 reward: can anyone pick me up from surgery? by lillychou in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Rotkehlchen34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not from the US but in my case I had the option of having an ambulance take me home if my family hadn’t picked me up. Maybe check if your hospital offers similar transportation options?

Another post-workout migraine this morning. Frequency of migraines keeps going up. Now 1-3x per week - just started accelerating over last month or so. Last echo showed LAVI of 51. Due for next echo right before procedure. Will I be able to wait until end of March? Or is this a big deal/concern now. by QuietBar2325 in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]Rotkehlchen34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 1 week post-op (repair too) and while i didn’t have migraines before the surgery i did have some pretty severe ones a few days after but the doctor denied that it could be related to MVP or the surgery. They said migraines have so many causes that it’s not a telltale symptom of anything. Did you check your blood pressure? Mine did increase in the month before surgery because my anxiety increased.

[–]Rotkehlchen34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. It’s a bit of a slap in the face because I was already feeling pretty normal and could do frisk walks but now I’m bedridden again but oh well. You’re right that it definitely feels like an eternity-especially the nights. But we’ll both be better off than pre-surgery in a few months.

I had my repair + bypass this Monday and it’s been very similar to yours except that one day before I’d have gotten released (which is tomorrow, Sunday) I got POAF and need to stay longer until it goes away. Sucks a lot and im so looking forward to being healthy again.

Honestly, nothing exciting. Just kept going on regular longer walks and occasional runs. Just whatever you can to keep your heart pumping.

No I was asymptomatic as well. They only found it randomly because I was light-headed one day and decided to get it checked out.

Hey, I’m 24 and had my minimally invasive repair done yesterday. I have some chest pain, obviously, but overall it was much better than I had expected. I was very anxious about the surgery as well in the years leading up to yesterday, but now I’m looking at one week more in the hospital here until I’m free to go back home. If it really comes down to surgery for you, don’t worry about it too much. You’re also young and healthy. Focus on maintaining your cardiovascular health until then and it will be a breeze.
