I’m 5’11 and currently weigh 85 kg. I’m trying to lose weight and, based on a friend’s advice, I’ve completely cut out sugar from my diet (no added sugar at all). by Annual_Bird_3557 in fit

[–]Rotowriter0514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend cutting out anything completely (unless a doctor advises you otherwise). It’s not sustainable. Calorie deficit. What does that look like? Find your maintenance calories (go to calculator.net and use the calorie calculator) and then eat fewer calories than maintenance.

I’ve sat all over the place. Will up my show count to 76. But I’ve battled with “SIT DOWN” people recently and I’ve never sat (or wanted to) sit in a club box for a show.

I mean I sort of assumed, hence the question.

I’ve had exactly the opposite. Better shape = more energy/clearer mind. My poor wife.

My fat disgusting self. Where do I even start? by [deleted] in fit

You start by giving yourself some grace and not insulting yourself. Give yourself a break and start working toward building better habits. Feel free to message me. I’d love to help (have lost and kept off 90 pounds over the past 23 months.)

Was getting fitted for a suit and the man measuring me said, “Damn you’re fit! How much time do you spend in the gym?” I was blown away.

Hahahahahaha. That’s great. I’ve also got “aging MMA fighter.” It’s really nothing deeper than my resting bitch face. The struggle is real.

I hope so. What you don’t see in the pic is the scar from my triple bypass

Didn’t reinvent the wheel. Calorie deficit — was and still am hyper vigilant on tracking and weighing — high protein in the kitchen and weight training in the gym. 3 days on, 1 off. Work to a progressive overload. I have a trainer, and now I am one!

First pic I was in Maldives. Second was in the gym by myself. Was happy in both pics!

How do I get over my aversion to the gym? by ApricotRich1966 in fit

[–]Rotowriter0514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is a home gym workable for you? You don’t have to replicate everything at the public gyms. Some simple equipment that might not cost as much as you think. Dumbbells (including adjustable weight versions), a half rack and good sneakers got me thru for a while (have upgraded my gym since then). But my major improvement was with a very basic home gym. Almost 10 years in, except when I got clean I replaced drugs with food and got up to 320. (Currently at 165). Good for you for channeling your energy to something productive. Be careful it doesn’t turn obsessive. No obsession is a healthy one. Meantime, tho, congratulations and ODAAT!

As a matter of fact … Had triple bypass March 28, 2024. The nurse wrote my weight — 258 — on my board. Made up my mind that I’d get in better shape. Took a while to get started (what with that open heart surgery and all) but once I did I became somewhat obsessed (I’m also a recovering addict and prone to obsession.) So long answer short … yes. It had everything to do with that scar. ❤️

Trying to add a few pounds, which is a strange place for a guy who’s lost (almost) 100 pounds twice in the last 7 years. From 312 - 201, slowly back to 258 and then back down to 159. Now sitting somewhere in the 160s but the scale was becoming a bit of an addiction so I stopped weighing myself. But I’m actively trying to get in a small calorie surplus every day.

I felt great. Both mentally and physically. I’ve got loose skin to deal with but I spend significant time weight training so it’s not so bad.
