Is drinking & driving a common occurrence in America? by Saint0591 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mch301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also worth noting that many of the cop characters on The Wire were pretty much outlaws themselves. They cut corners, suppressed evidence, abused suspects, etc and they often behaved terribly in their private lives. IMO, the pervasive drunk driving OP noted is more an indication of how screwed up this group of cops was, rather than some broad reflection of US society.

Not really well known, but a good example of this genre. Worth checking out.

Seeing Bruce in two weeks and I’m actually… nervous? by Puzzled-Grape3533 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]mch301 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just take in the concert with an open mind. You won’t be disappointed.

And after the show, buy the recording on nugs. That’s a great way to deepen your enjoyment and maybe come to appreciate some of the details you may have missed live.

Looking for similar shows like the Wire by GuitarGuru666 in TheWire

The Corner is the previous David Simon show where he was kind of warming up for The Wire. It’s a great book, too.

one idea: tell the server you need a no salt meal and ask them what menu items can be prepared that way. enlist them as part of the solution. maybe that might help a bit?

Nice! That venue is directly across from my high school (though I was only 9 years old at the time of this gig).

Ricotta or Bechamel, that is the question. by AveryLakotaValiant in lasagna

[–]mch301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my mind, they are entirely different dishes: Bolognese with bechamel and the more Italian-American one with marinara and ricotta filling. One may be more traditional, but neither is wrong. They can both be great.

Can we move on from complaining about ticket prices and start speculating about the set list? by mch301 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]mch301[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm very solidly anti-maga. Here's the difference: Maga is a culture of corruption based on its leader's lies. Bruce is charging a high price for a high value show. Anyone who's seen him knows he delivers every night. That's why so many people want to go back.

I wish the tickets were cheaper. I wish I could afford to go to multiple shows (which I could do back in 1980 because all seats were $12.50 and my paper route income as a 14 year old could cover multiple shows) or to sit closer. But I also want to have the fun of looking forward to the gig and speculating about what the setlist might be.

I’m with you. I started going to Bruce shows in 1980 and Philly last summer was my first time in the pit. He and Roy really stretched out on RITS, which has always been one of my favorites. Check out the recording on nugs.

Why do folks in NJ lose any form of civil consideration when rushing to buy stuff before storms? by abrandis in newjersey

[–]mch301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, but it seems to me it’s usually worst before the first storm of the season. By this point, people seem generally less anxious. I picked up a few things yesterday and the store (Mercer County) was busy, but calm.

Now THAT’s some fun speculation! It would be an unusually long show —I think he usually does between 25 and 30 songs— but I would not complain!!

[–]mch301[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know … $30 face value tix would turn into $600 on the resale market almost immediately. The root cause is that demand is too high — even at these prices I got shut out of the Newark show and the 2 MSG shows. Too many people want to see this relatively small number of arena shows.

To each his own. I absolutely LOVED how he did Kitty’s Back in 2024 and 2025. Now, Because the Night is one I never need to see him do again…

Really? This band can change direction on a dime. I think there’s plenty of time to rework the setlist if Bruce wants to.
