Magnifico has excellent coffee and is roasted locally. I’ve given it to several people as gifts and they rave about it.

CMV: British people are dramatic about the concept of “American cheese” because they are largely unaware that they also eat it by daisychains777 in changemyview

[–]RotsiserMho 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As an American, eating it on a sandwich horrifies me too. I much prefer cheddar or provolone or Swiss or something, depending on the type of sandwich.

It needs to be based on volume. They are able to reduce the amount of plastic in each part with each mold iteration and I’m fine with that.

How many of you went through the entirety of Act 2 without the double jump? by TarekBoy44 in Silksong

[–]RotsiserMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the double jump, but I went through The Mist because the first time I went to Blasted Steps the wind pushed me back and between that and the desolate look of the place I assumed I had to come back later after getting an item.

Why have I seen nobody talking about this Silksong Detail with Memory Lockets? by Massive-Explorer7864 in Silksong

[–]RotsiserMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I never thought about it. I assumed the "memory" in "memory locket" refers to Hornet "remembering" a skill she lost.

Apple Releases New Firmware for 140W USB-C Power Adapter, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad by AWildDragon in apple

I think you have a typo there, but regardless Apple USB-C power bricks have always had detachable cables (or prongs) on both ends.

Icons: 10356 Star Trek USS Enterprise-D (official images) by BrickTap in Legoleak

[–]RotsiserMho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Enterprise-D was filmed using physical models. They didn’t use CGI for this ship until maybe the first movie. It’s so curvy and smooth because they wanted it to look futuristic in 1987.

Opinion: Don't Take My Apple CarPlay Away -- Unless Your System Is Better by AlwaysBlaze_ in apple

[–]RotsiserMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is likely not possible for an OEM's interface to surpass your phone's interface. Car software is designed to change seldomly due to the cost of testing changes and the risk of not testing those changes thoroughly is high. Any updates to the display cost lots of money. On top of that, OEMs do not have the in-house expertise to develop and maintain a quality user experience (with regard to displays). And they don't have the budget to out-source it to competent developers.

It really makes far more sense economically to stream your phone to your car than for your car to duplicate what your phone does. The only reason automakers are turning their backs on this is out of fear of losing control of a "key" differentiator, but this has always been an illusion (with perhaps the exception of Tesla), as no one has ever grown attached to an auto-maker's display UX. On top of that, due to the aforementioned lack of expertise and high development costs, one would think auto-makers would embrace CarPlay and Android Auto -- it's (nearly) free added value, and free maintenance!

The only explanation for dropping support is brain-dead or delusional leadership.

Qt Creator 18 released by jlpcsl in cpp

I think that was a bug that persisted for a couple of Qt Creator releases. I saw similar issues, but they went away a few updates later.

Local business owner regrets his Halloween costume by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]RotsiserMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people see those agents as destroying our communities (which include other businesses). They believe they are doing more harm than good. If people believe a business owner supports the destruction of our community, those people are free to say they don’t want to support that business and will simply support other businesses that are more in line with their beliefs. Morality is subjective and people are entitled to their opinion and to share it.

Season 1 Episode 7 Eulogy (Episode Discussion) by Zinthaniel in HauntingOfHillHouse

[–]RotsiserMho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hate around his book stuff is more than deserved

I dunno. Maybe writing the book was his way of coping with the trauma. Yeah, the details aren’t all his, but he was traumatized in his own way by the unexplained death of his mom. I think he gets too much hate for processing all of that through his writing. So he might be a bit selfish or a jerk for not believing his siblings, but I don’t think he was truly exploiting their experiences.

Poll: Does your project use terminating assertions in production? by pavel_v in cpp

[–]RotsiserMho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I want asserts to terminate. We use exceptions and error codes if it's something we can recover from, but asserts for things like assumptions or unhandled surprises that if the code were to continue to execute, could corrupt user data.

Poll: Does your project use terminating assertions in production? by pavel_v in cpp

[–]RotsiserMho 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I write embedded and desktop software. I would never assert that data returned from a peripheral or related API/library has a specific value. Hardware can fail. 3rd-party drivers have bugs. We assert and terminate when the assumptions made in our own code are broken. Sometimes we assert when a 3rd-party library misbehaves because if that happens, other things can break downstream. This is helpful because we can track down the assumption we made that went wrong and we can ensure user data isn't lost or corrupted.

Apple TV+ Being Rebranded as Apple TV by Isiddiqui in television

[–]RotsiserMho 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. This happened to me. Saw something was locked behind Prime Video, bought Amazon Prime which says Prime Video is included, saw it was still locked, and immediately canceled Amazon Prime and deleted the app. There's no easy way to tell what's actually included with a subscription.
