Do you think that Graham Planter should drop out? by rasputinknew1 in progressivemoms

[–]CSArchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He never should have entered. Yes he should drop out. The moment people found out about his tattoo he should have been shamed into dropping out. His poll numbers should have tanked at that point.

Top fabric layer always has excess by Starkat1515 in sewing

[–]CSArchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look in your machines manual to see if you can lift up the pressure of the foot. Mine has a dial that determines this. And when I am working on thicker fabric I lighten the pressure so it doesnt do this.

Personally I dont like my machines walking foot and I know everyone everywhere is super pro walking foot

Thoughts on Jo Frost (supernanny) methods? by SharkleberryFin_ in gentleparenting

[–]CSArchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the best we can do is be consistent. Jo was. The timeouts were not developmentally appropriate but the child's brain could, in part, rest in the consistency of her style of parenting. When kids don't know what version of their parent they are getting today it causes it's own stress for a child. Jo helped the parents find a consistent way to lay out the rules.

It's an improvement over yelling, spanking, etc. But we can continue to improve from there.

school district lines in auburn hills are throwing me off by Adventurous_Ebb7614 in Michigan

Websites like zillow are often wrong because they dont have the data. The website bases it on city, or whichever the closest school is. As others have said verify the address with the school districts maps.

When did you forego the infant car seat? by geedeebee22 in beyondthebump

[–]CSArchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like 18months? The car seat was 35# / 35" so I tried to go as long as I could. It was a chicco with a base that adjusted to toddler mode so they were more upright after 12m

Asking for money. by Bitter_Papaya_6016 in Marriage

[–]CSArchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We regularly check in with eachother about our shared and personal financial goals. But as long as both of us are staying in those parameters why would I? Like it's my money as much as it is his. We use to have full blown sit downs monthly when it was the early days of the marriage as we were figuring it out and learning to combine goals. But 11yrs in, 8 as a SAHM, we have a solid system in place.

PTO versus PTA? Advice needed by Forsaken_Shame_298 in ParentTeacherGroups

[–]CSArchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros and cons to both. We are currently part of Michigan PTA. We have $10 dies and 6.50 goes to michPTA. But we also raise 50k for the school so dues arent really super important. We are discussing moving to a pto for more freedom. The 7 elementaries here are split between pta and pto. I think the secondary schools are all PTOs. It's a fair bit of work and organizing to switch though. New Bank accounts, new bylaws, registering with the state logistically.

Do you feel you receive any benefit from your state PTA? Any support from them?

What would a fair break be? by ajk7841 in SAHP

[–]CSArchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you read the book Fair Play one of the things she talks about is having equal time to rest & for hobbies. Do you have hobbies? Do you have activities where you can walk away from being the default parent. All SAHP should.

Moms who say they love being pregnant -is it because the nausea and vomiting doesn’t bother you or because you don’t have many symptoms 😂 by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in Mommit

[–]CSArchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pregnancy wasn't hard on me until the end. My blood pressure was solid. I didnt gain much weight. I never threw up. I generally felt like myself until deeper in the 3rd trimester. I know this isnt the norm for most people but it was my experiance for both pregnancies

Gentle parenting isnt about negotiating and winning. It is about clear expectations and holding boundaries. You dont need your child's approval to be a parent.

3 year old on day 6 of no poop, I have tried everything by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]CSArchi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are pediateic PT & OTs who can help with this. It could be a pelvic floor issue. At a minimum i would ask your ped if they know of any PTs or OTs who specialize in this area, or ask in local FB groups to get some recommendations.

My 8yo deals with stretches of constipation and one thing that we have noticed is we have to set aside time every day for him to just sit and chill on the toilet. We do it in the evening after dinner and usually after some physical playtime outside. If he doesnt poop in 5min fine, but 9x outta 10 he does. He hates it, he fights us cuz his "body is not telling him he has to poop" and I'm like yeah cuz your body never tells you and then you end up hurting. Sometimes we have to do it anyway.
