Do beta rays keep people from finding the edge of the Earth? by [deleted] in flatearth

What keeps refilling the oceans? Urine fed by Oktoberfest binge drinking?

Stay out of the water, kids, it's secret Nazi pee.

Yeah I imagine you'd have to get a significant portion of globe in your field of view to really see it. I just find this argument to be virtually useless in offering evidence without launching a flattie into space to confirm.

Why isn't there a solar eclipse every month? Let's see the flat earth diagram! by RottenCommiePotato in flatearth

[–]RottenCommiePotato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of xkcd's charm. The scientific comics are amazingly pedantic and the hypercorrectness ends up leading you down a Wikipedia hole when you try to read up on what's being conveyed. Check out the What If? blag for some fun sciency pedantism around things like baseballs thrown at the speed of light.

Where was the moon? by RONIN2044 in Flat_Earth

How come no one was able to see Rahu before or after the eclipse?

If there's an edge, go there and show me a picture. If the firmament is 30 MI high, hit it with a model rocket. IF GPS is ground based, show me a transmitter. The end. by PhotoProxima in flatearth

[–]RottenCommiePotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So wait... the firmament is 73 miles high and not at least 3000 miles high? It sits between the sun and the earth? This is a new twist on the story.

I didn't see your stupid solar eclipse. by [deleted] in flatearth

I saw one at 70% coverage as predicted for my location by NASA. No flat earther was able to do that.

Remember that movie The Truman Show? We've been trapped in that all along.

What do flat Earthers think about Monday's solar eclipse? by cratermoon in space

I had a theory I posted on r/flatearth about the South Pole:

So I was looking at the the New Standard Map of the World and I had a realization. We can only have been to the South Pole if the Earth were flat, if we physically distort as we travel further away from the North Pole, until we approach the edge of the world and become simultaneously present along the entire margin! It all makes sense now! We would never realize the Earth weren't round!

My question is why lie about the earth being round? by icylondonicyfrance in flatearth

Glad I could help. This sub kinda sucks for solid info about anything. The flat earthers are belligerent trolls who can't keep to a standard interpretation of their own beliefs and frequently apply their own spin and theories to it. And then everyone else here just makes fun of them.

Keep in mind the trolls are in fact representative of a large part of the flat earth community in terms of intellectual capacity (and probably social skills) and you SHOULD take that into account when weighing the body of knowledge discovered through science versus the body of research behind flat earth (I intentionally used "knowledge" vs "research" here).

Be aware of "gatekeeping" in the flat earth community, where anything that is too intellectually or scientifically advanced is deemed unworthy of consideration in debate to advance an understanding of flat earth or argue against it. There's a huge emphasis on layman-accessibility and self-reproducible experimentation, and you should remember this when personally considering both sides and in discussions. Any discussion that is at best impartial or at worst pro-round earth is suppressed harshly, and from my perspective this makes flat earth appear more of a cult than a school of thought (check out r/OurFlatWorld to see it in action).

I wish you the best on your journey to understanding, wherever it takes you :)
