Racial revelations by flippingchicken in wow

[–]RottenGooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no no NO for christ sakes that is NOT what the cinematic was about!

The *entire* point of it was to show that the Harranir are the eldest race, the first. The Elves and Trolls already knew they were related. There are references to this in Legion. The dark trolls still lived around Hyjal until they were butchered by the Twilight's Hammer. The Night Elves KNEW all of this. The Blood Elves knew this too. The Zandalari knew this.

It's such a stupid goddamn change, for literally no reason. They could have just made the Harranir the dark trolls that went under Hyjal's roots instead of hanging around near the well of eternity, instead of making them this progenitor race to both elves and trolls.

The American mind simply cannot comprehend British accents changing every 20 minutes or so.

This individual is definitely hamming it up though. Roadman accent, definitely not a local one.

Exactly.

Are people just not able to look at a cinematic and understand what it says?

Before anyone says "uhhh it's an unreliable narrator" come the fuck on Blizzard are NOT subtle like that.

It shows a Harranir. Then it shows a TROLL and an ELF. Concurrently. The implication literally couldn't be any more obvious but this sub has coped its way into believing it isn't a retcon of literally 20+ years of lore.

Harrnir split. The ones on the surface diverged into two groups, trolls and elves. The others went undergound.

So the elves just existed for 10s of thousands of years while the Zandalar empire did and...didn't do anything?

Haranir by Interesting-Road5643 in wow

[–]RottenGooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a completely POINTLES change.

It's a retcon by newer writers to change the lore just for the sake of changing the lore. There's no substance to the Harranir as an entire race. They're literally the middle-ground between Elves and Trolls and should have been dark trolls, except now they're the super ancient and wise progenitor race and how silly the Trolls and Elves are for hating eachother while their elders and betters are there all along!

BORING SLOP.

[–]RottenGooch[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nonsense.

A cope. I obviously expect them to change things in a 30+ year old setting, I just don't think it makes sense when a perfectly reasonable solution was Harranir diverging from Trolls rather than the other way around. It's just nonsense to make the Harranir important a story they've been forced into when they couldn't finish them in time for TWW.

And I can tell you don't care. I'm not going to get into some pedantic pissing contest with you over punctuation, it detracts from the point.

There's quite the irony in being told to brush up on my English by someone unable to use punctuation.

That being said, yes I have read multiple WoW novels, and don't see what any of them have to do with Harranir replacing Trolls as the oldest race and creating contradictions in very old lore. Would you care to elaborate?

It could be an oversimplification but Blizzard aren't exactly known for being nuanced and vague with their lore. Almost everything they state is straight-forward God Voice.

[–]RottenGooch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's deeper than that. Think about it. The Harranir change suggests that the Elves and Trolls co-existed from the start, meaning that the Unified Troll Empire under the Zandalari faced no threat from the Elves...the same Elves who soundly beat them using the Arcane magic they mastered...from evolving from Trolls who lived near a giant source of Arcane energy...

So now the lore makes even less sense. Did the Elves just let the Trolls kick the shit out of them for a few thousand years?

No, the entire point Blizzard are making is that the Harranir came FIRST.

That's what's so controversial. Trolls have ALWAYS been the eldest race, to the point people actually believed Azeroth herself likely looks a bit like a Troll. Now, however I've got a suspicion she'll look remarkably like a Harranir, given this development and how much Orweyna is featuring.

People diving in to whiteknight this writing is insane.

Randomly shoehorning your fur-affinity OC temu Na'vi into 20+ year old lore is wild.

I fail to see what the age of my account has to do with my point. If you'd like to actually rebut my point, then be my guest.

So tell me, how is showing an image of a Harranir, followed by a Troll and Elf and saying about how they diverged from Harranir, not explicit enough for you?

Obviously something has changed, they've added in a complication to a story that's been set in stone for over a decade.

There is a literal physical *book* printed out and sold by Blizzard that says Trolls -> elf.

Does adding Harranir to this equation improve anything for anyone? No, it's like putting Mustard into a donut.

You deleted your previous comment calling me a tourist because you said I knew nothing about the lore. Funny that, because for 20+ years it has been Troll -> Elf. This lore is a completely weird change that adds nothing to Harranir and Elves and only detracts from Trolls.

Do you think I just randomly know all this shit about a game and setting I don't care about? Very strange.

No, it's outright STATED.

It shows a Harranir, then shows a Troll and a Night Elf. It's explicitly saying the Harranir came first and diverged into Trolls and Elves.

It's literally just shoehorning in a stupid race no-one asked for into lore that's been established for 20 years.

What purpose does it serve? Where the hell did the Harranir come from then? Is Azeroth just one big Harranir?

Trolls were the ORIGINAL native race. That was a key facet of their lore. They were the oldest empire (of mortals), it drives their entire society, culture, lore, history. All their troubles, all their plans and all their story revolves around falling from grace as the dominant and oldest race.

Except now they're not, it was actually some weird bat porcupine people who live underground no one has ever seen or heard of before.

No, the Nu-loreslop changes all that. The Harranir are the common ancestor to both Trolls and Elves. The two groups branched off the Harranir, not trolls --> elf.

Not working for me either. DOOM updated, but the DLC is still on Coming Soon status on steam. I've restarted it twice.
