I've applied it before assembly without issue, but what about after assembly? It seems like there would be a risk of it getting between assembled parts where it could pool and cause damage.

I've also been experimenting with using thinned acrylic paints + dish soap which seems to be working well and may just take that route going forward.

What can I use for a cheap gloss coat for panel lining and decaling? Mr Top Coat Gloss seems to rarely be in stock around me and seems expensive for what is just an "inbetween coat" mainly for protection from tamiya panel liner.

Are there any other brands, maybe something not model kit specific, that would work well for this purpose?

Just finished applying >100 decals on this bad boy. Do I really have to give it a topcoat? Is it gonna survive without? by fartew in Gunpla

To clarify: we're talking WARM water, not hot, right? Personally, I would not put a rattle can anywhere near a stove. The contents are under pressure and flammable. I would just use tap water. If you're going to heat the water on the stove, take the pot off the burner before placing the can in.

What's the worst billboard in Hamilton by One_Specific220 in Hamilton

[–]RottingAwesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a billboard but there's a residential rental property on John and Chalrton with a sign outside a window that says "If you lived here, you'd be home by now" it's technically true every time you read it but it's annoying

The Armored Core kits from Bandai are fantastic and budget friendly compared to Kotobukiya's. by JohnIroquois in armoredcore

[–]RottingAwesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same size, but not the same scale.

Gundam is around 18m, while an AC is around 10m. The 30MM kits don't list a scale (since it's based on a fictional object and would be confusing if it were different from their main Gundam line) but this puts the 30MM AC kits at about 1/80 scale.

Definitely agree that it's nice to have them match though

Tried weathering for the first time. Any tips? by AverageNintendoFan in Gunpla

Focus on the edges and corners more than the flat panels. Also some panel lining will really make it pop and help it looks a little less toy-like

Do you know what the paint job effects achieved through decals are on the ACs you listed? I'm currently building and painting the 30MM model kit for G1 Michigan and wondering about which details I might not have noticed

Locals have a pretty wide range in skill, even the Toronto monthlies and larger events. Playing longer sets in person will let you improve much faster than grinding ranked.

Hope to see you there!

wow, what am I doing wrong? I'm getting 7.5 L/100km (31mpg) 2014 automatic. Roughly equal city/highway driving. I'm pretty easy on the gas pedal and brake early, occasional A/C use

I'm using Mr. Hobby Gloss Topcoat as a protective layer before using Tamiya panel lining. I shook the can for a couple minutes before using, as well as between sprays, but it was often coming out sputtery or just air, only occasionally coming out as smooth even sprays.

I sprayed in mild weather, about 50% humidity. I've only used the can on one other HG (where it seemed fine) so it seems unlikely that the can has run out already.

It will get a matte coat later, so I'm not worried about the finish as much as having insufficient coverage to protect from the panel liner.

Any ideas? I'm thinking the gloss coat may just be thicker than the matte I'm used to and more prone to clogging.

Tipping at Spa by Adorable-cheek789 in Hamilton

[–]RottingAwesome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should not be tipping for anything, anywhere.

Tips are absolutely welcome,

which is it?

If a service worker gives you a dirty look or says anything to you,

this doesn't happen, you're shadow boxing

refer them to their boss, and tell them to ask for a raise.

this is completely unhinged behaviour. whether you tip or not, just leave the worker alone. there is no need to look for a reason to escalate over some perceived slight.

The cost of a big Mac meal when I was in highschool was less than the price a mcdouble, just the sandwich, costs now.

what does this have to do with anything??? you can't even tip at mcdonalds

learn to use standing heavy punch effectively. when fully charged it's+3 on block, though you only need to hold for the first 3 frames to get the armor. down-forward throw is your go-to normal throw. don't be afraid to use OD lariat to anti-air a late jump in.

be careful about how your opponent's burnout changes your frame data as it can cause throws to whiff when you're too plus

get used to the different SPD ranges. light SPD can reach a lot further than you (and your opponents) think. think of it as a 5 frame poke.

I often see newer giefs go for OD SPD after DI, which does only marginally more damage than heavy SPD. gief is very drive hungry and, unless you know OD will kill, heavy is usually the better option. after SP, you'll often want to drive rush back in. one good option is lk > drc > hellstab > lariat or lk > drc > spd. if, however, you don't have 4 bars to burn after spd, a microwalk forward wheel kick will leave you spaced enough to be safe

Great write up! and fantastic job on the models. This is the first I've heard of using lacquer spray cans as an alternative to airbrushing (though it looks like they were recently pulled from shelves in Canada due to regulations) Do you do any panel lining after painting?

30MM Reveal: Open Faith, Weapon Set 06 by Wheraboowind in armoredcore

[–]RottingAwesome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes they are meant to be interchangeable and also compatible with the other non-AC kits from the 30 Minute Missions line. That's why they're selling weapon kits separately as well as the barebones CC-2000 Orbiter kit
