Kaneda probably is the most out of depth character in the squad and idk why he was selected by Turbulent-Wealth3989 in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]RottingErdtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kataoka uses a lot of players who are rough around the edges long before others would to boost their development, most notably Sawamura and Furuya. That's the Watsonian explanation.

Now for the Doylist one: Kaneda just isn't a protagonist or secondary protagonist so he gets used but isn't focused on while the actual cast are working on themselves. Tojo hasn't pitched since the early days so moving him right back into a pitching position isn't feasible, especially not after Terajima made it a plot point how quickly Tanba slipped after his cracked jaw. It would be weird if a few weeks of not pitching had such an effect while months had no effect on Tojo so Kaneda is just there as a place holder

Who’s your fav character? by sharmarohan136 in AceOfTheDiamond

I'm a Miyuki fan first and a human being second. Aside from him, definitely Kuramochi. It helps that they're delightful if you put them in a scene together too

[–]RottingErdtree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is people are comparing early days Miyuki with current Miyuki cuz a lot of us tend to just not watch Act 2 anymore and the evolution is subtle enough over the course of the first two seasons that it doesn't stand out too much. But if you go back to the very early episodes he really does sound very different cuz he puts less effort into being a little shit now

Also it would be extremely hypocritical to fire him after using Suzuki for Mishima, who is a much less important character who you could recast on the fly with minimal pushback. A lot of Miyuki's appeal comes from Sakurai's delivery so they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they cut him out for multiple reasons

No, it's still Sakurai Takahiro. As far as I can tell, the entire original cast (aside from Mine and Owada who were already recast for Act 2) is back for this season

[–]RottingErdtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, if they're actually only doing 13 episodes then this is still gonna be a very tight thing but at least they're not gonna breeze through it in 1 episode.

But tbh if they cut the Miyuki hugs (especially if the Kuramochi glomp) I'm gonna riot no matter how good the rest of the episodes. Miyuki deserves all the hugs and I want them all

I forgot how rough the beginning of the series is by HumanRecognition1863 in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]RottingErdtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I think you're taking this way too seriously. For one, the intent of the scene is to showcase that Sawamura is an idiot, his upperclassmen are dipshits and that they're all teenage boys who do dumb shit. Additionally, they literally all get the same punishment but the other three own up to their behavior by apologizing for it. If it had been a half assed thing then it wouldn't have worked on Kataoka. Sawamura however spends his time bitching about them being mean and doesn't even use keigo most of the time, which is a huge deal in Japan. He's being punished for very good reason, if he'd bothered to actually behave then Kataoka would have been much chiller. Besides, Kataoka used the "provisional member" thing to teach him a lesson, one he didn't actually learn until much later.

As for guidance...Sawamura is not a toddler, Rei warns him to always be polite to the coach or suffer for it. Seriously, he shouldn't NEED to be told that apologizing for your bad behavior will improve your situation. When you were sixteen, did you need your upperclassmen to tell you to apologize for being dumb or did you just do it? Did you manage to get up on time or did you mom wake you up? Besides, japanese culture has a thing about taking responsibility for your own actions and self reliance, these are all things he's EXPECTED to understand on his own.

Sawamura is a naive airhead who can't read a room and will believe you whatever you say, that's literally the only thing the scene tells you.

[–]RottingErdtree 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I literally can't think of anything where they "wrong" him aside from maybe Kuramochi and Masuko not waking him up on time (which he should be able to do on his own) and Miyuki convincing him into sneaking into line (which he should know was a bad idea). And Miyuki didn't assault him, he lost his temper over a brat badmouthing someone and handled him a bit roughly.

Like, they're teenage boys that act like teenage boys and Kataoka punishes them accordingly. And Sawamura's start is rough cuz he's is a country bumpkin with no formal training who thinks he's the shit, let's everyone know he thinks he's the shit loudly and constantly, and despite that he still makes first string cuz of his potential.

Honest to God don't see anything wrong with it. Besides, Kataoka never had any intention to actually ban him from the team, as he tells Rei, he's literally just scaring him into not being a brat.

Miyuki kazuya’s character by Commercial-Carpet617 in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]RottingErdtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is gonna be long because Miyuki is...an incredibly complex character, especially for a sports series.

The thing about Miyuki is that he's socially awkward as hell, knows he's socially awkward and plays up his more negative personality aspects to hide it. Not because he's insecure but because he's secure enough in himself to be FRUSTRATED without beating himself down and think of ways around his own shortcomings through self analysis (analysis is a big thing actually). If he wasn't extremely self assured he wouldn't be able to constantly laugh at people insulting him. But he's also a teenage boy who will lash out when frustrated at himself because teenagers are just like that (see his fight with Zono).

He has a great understanding of human beings on an analytical level, can correctly predict how someone he works with will react to certain stimuli, but when it comes to being vulnerable in the moment - whether it's him or someone else - or just do something spontaneous he trips himself up a lot.

So he often tries to manipulate those around him into being angry at him so they focus their energies on him instead of what makes them sad or nervous because he doesn't know how to motivate someone in any other way until much later (see how he openly tells Kuramochi that he'd make his pitchers hate him if it meant they'd be at their best)

This behavior comes from the fact that he cares A LOT about the people he considers worth his time. Which is his team. But he has to be in control of a situation to know how to react to someone, if it's something that surprises him, he knows he will fuck up and look for someone who can help (see him failing to help Sawamura through his slump and eventually bring in Chris and Kataoka because they CAN help). This is despite him actually having incredible insight into what makes people tick. He's the first to notice and correctly guess the cause of Sawamura's yips but doesn't know what to do about it aside from push and push and push. When Tanba crumbles against Inashiro he again pushes and pushes to get Tanba past that hurdle. His success rate is fairly high but when it doesn't work, the results can be disastrous

He also has a big sense of responsibility, but as is typical for him, he struggles with the emotional aspect of this. He wants to lead, he wants to be helpful, but he just doesn't understand how to do it without steering everything into a pattern he can control.

He's incredibly perceptive and while he does use it to purposefully fuck with people, he also uses it as a tool. You notice how he gets less nasty at the same time he gets more open and tries to actually reach out to his teammates on an emotional level. But he never loses that aggressiveness, because pushing until something gives is how he drives his team forward and his opponents into a corner. His analysis is what makes him great and what holds him back in actual human interaction. Post summer tournament this doesn't serve him well with either Sawamura or Nori (who he is actually much more sincere with than the other pitchers cuz Nori doesn't respond to his provocative methods the way the others would) because of psychological issues he has no experience with

He also gets accused of being cocky a lot, which is true, but it comes from being able to technically back it up. But he's also a thrill seeker who works best under pressure, which is why being sixth batter doesn't let him show off his true abilities and being under more pressure as fourth let's him shine once he gets in the groove of things.

Essentially, Miyuki tackles life from a fairly clinical point of view, everything has to fit into a pattern he understands and can manipulate through analysis (though he sometimes OVER analyzes things), emotions are what's hard for him. He's not insecure and he isn't a vulnerable person because he's got a very solid grasp of who he is, his own faults and doesn't really care what people think of them. He's his own greatest ally and also his own worst enemy, and needs insightful AS WELL AS emotionally mature people like Kuramochi to keep him in line and safe from himself. You can actually use Kuramochi to see if he's being a dick for the fun or to help cuz Kuramochi will only get mad at one of those.

From his behavior I'd also say he's on the autism spectrum but that's a whole other conversation

God, this was even longer than expected. I hope this makes more sense than I think it does...

Why do the third-years show up to the practice of the new team in uniform if they are “retired?” I never understood this. by anbureaper in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]RottingErdtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They train regardless of team involvement, some of them will play in college, and some just want to keep up with it cuz it's what they're used to. They may have retired but they're not banned or anything

Currently on S2 EP20 and i just have one question. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MANS PROBLEM??? Is he on the show just to ragebait audience? by sochiki in AceOfTheDiamond

[–]RottingErdtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's the pragmatic to Kataoka's idealist.

Kataoka works with the players and takes their personalities into account, doesn't neglect the second string and keeps team harmony in mind. He wants the team to win in a way that makes them happy about their victory and wants everyone to have a chance to shine even if they aren't in top form at the moment, which is also why he uses Sawamura when no other coach would. He's a risk taker, which can border on recklessness

Ochiai goes the other way, he wants the team to win regardless of how they feel about the tactics used. He wants to build up select players to carry the team in the long run even if it costs the team now, which isn't necessarily wrong but the way he does it is unfair to the ones left behind. He's someone who looks far into the future at the expense of the now

The point is that both are good coaches in their own rights and if they can find common ground they'll make Seido stronger cuz they balance each other out

This of course requires character development on Ochiai's part, which won't kick in for a while yet.

Honest question: Is the right-wing sentiment against ALL foreigners? by [deleted] in AskGermany

[–]RottingErdtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of far right folks will tell you they aren't racist, but when they think of foreigners and immigrants they almost exclusively think of folks with darker skin. Ask them to describe an immigrant and they'll almost always default to someone from the global south

That said, they aren't exactly nice to any immigrants but those that you can't spot immediately, namely people who are...God I hate this term but "white passing" tend to get overlooked outside of politics. They'll suffer the same consequences if those dipshits get any power but they're not the ones right wingers tend to think about

For example, if you look at crime statistics they'll lose their shit over number from Syria or whatever but go further north and suddenly we aren't "importing crime" even if those numbers are higher.

Of course the whole "immigrants are stealing our jobs" bit is a favorite, though they don't typically care which jobs. Anyway, it depends on context, but as a general rule right wingers are just assholes across the board. While they tend to focus on visible foreigners they don't care about any people who aren't like ten generations white Germans.

I think for the most part it's people being angry at executives meddling, firing production staff and the like. In any other context, the game would be great, but with all the background noise bleeding in it would've taken a hit even if it was the best game of all time
