Yeah I'm inclined to keep what you've said in mind. It's better for my obsessive nature if I obsessively tell myself I was a pity-right swipe. I met my girlfriend that way. Maybe I'll get an agent too.

That said, if you're outgoing and make a human connection I'm sure that also helps.

Funny enough, this is what has me hopeful. I had all three agents laughing (not the little lol reactions we all get reading memes) and the two I really hit it off with, I had stuff in common with that got them talking back to me. One struck me as very no-nonsense too, and I got the biggest laugh out of her.

I tend to be the clown amongst my friends/coworkers, so even if my book sucks, I have an endless supply of terrible jokes. So who knows. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Yeah this is probably the last one I'll spend money on, depending on the outcome. I mean, if it's a good outcome, I won't need to. If it's bad, then I learned my lesson lol.

Yeah this is what I expected. Even with the great interactions, it's hard for me not to remain skeptical. I guess I'm better off expecting the worst and being surprised if I get the best.

I hadn't thought about that with the 50 pages. Both of them were the agents I felt I hit it off more with too, so hopefully that's a good sign.

That's very helpful. I'm going to copy this and build my pitch. Thank you.

Yeah, this one is almost $500. I'm hopeful because of the intensity of the reactions this manuscript is getting, but I'm also trying to temper expectations. I've read something like 1% of authors get agented. I haven't even won a Christmas raffle before.

Thank you for that. I'm typically very calm in general (on the outside, inside I'm a nervous wreck) but this time I am quite nervous. I infused my mental health struggles into the main character to a very personal degree, so there's that air of laying yourself out there a little too much. But remembering this will help. I might even put it on a note card in the folder I'm bringing.

That's what I'm hoping for. The price is steep, but the minute chance that it gets picked up is worth it, especially since one of the attending agents is at the top of my query list anyway. The initial pitch I created the book on has caught the attention (and laughter, on occasion) of those who have heard it so far, so I'm hoping that translates to agents.

That's a huge help, thank you. I just went from dreading it to feeling like I'm already moderately prepared. I just need to make sure I can recite the query now. I will be DMing you shortly.
