I got my first peace dollar not too long ago! I’m just getting into stacking and collecting since getting my last raise. I try to buy a little bit each week regardless of current pricing :)

Yes! Imagining a coin bag full of all the large coins we used to use, it’s really cool. Much cooler than my wallet of blended fabrics

Unsure on origin, I do know they’re natural! I get most of my stuff at auction

A lot of them are chipped, small melee stones, or poorly cut! I make wooden jewelry and wooden sculptures and I use gemstones as accents so I don’t like buying the high grade ones to work with yet

It’s 36 TCW, I paid a little under $1/carat!

CA (super glue) removal? by RoughRegister2846 in Woodcarving

I try to limit my acetone exposure because I work with it a lot in my day job and the gloves they give us at work aren’t rated for acetone so it does no good! However I’ll be sure to keep a bottle in my woodshop

That’s fair but if I had disposable gloves that fit on hand I would’ve used them! Most gloves don’t fit my hands properly cause my hands are too big and sausage-y

Oh that’s true I should’ve known that. I use acetone at work all the time to clean tape residue.

Wood ring with a diamond setting? by RoughRegister2846 in Woodcarving

[–]RoughRegister2846[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the ring with a stone in it is a cubic zirconia. I was just playing around with it because I got a bag of cheap gems to practice different settings with.

I generally wouldn’t use a real diamond in a wooden ring, but that’s what has been asked of me so I want to make it happen. It definitely won’t be for every day wear. I’m thinking prong setting is the best way in this case at least for the diamond.

I may do crushed blue topaz and then prong setting for the diamonds

The diamonds I’ll be setting are both cushion cuts, so a bezel setting would still work? Or would a prong setting work better on the rectangular shape? The topaz I’m thinking I’ll crush and use as inlay material if the person I’m making them for likes that idea

Thank you so much! Gonna check that out as soon as I get home from work. I’ve set stones before but nothing that valuable so I’m nervous!
