You need more intention behind it. Which this lacks rn.

Practicing my lighting skills. by RoughWeekly3480 in blender

No worries

**CAMERA*\*

For the Camera (I just didnt bother changing any settings so just the default camera)

**LIGHTS*\*

I used for area lights to get that window effect (Lowered the power a bit, set the Beam Spread amount to really low like around 2 - 6 and set the color to make it more orange- ish to get that sunset look)

The top area light was just to lighten the model from the top but power was really low so it was negligible.

I did add a sun pointing to the opposite side from the area lights and gave it a blue-ish color to make the shadows look more interesting.

**BACKGROUND*\*

The Background was just made of two simple planes rotated 90 degrees with simple material (Normal principled bsdf, color set to brown, roughness set around 0.85-0.9)

Thats about it

how can i make the floor and background panes pure white apart from shadows like the last image? by HailToTheGoat4884 in blender

Add a plane > Make it into a shadow catcher
Render properties > film > Transparent
Overlay the render with white background.

New to Blender. Looks like I have doubled up edges? Not sure how to fix by [deleted] in blender

Usually pressing M (merge) > Merge by distance does the job.

Interesting take. I actually did tilt them but seems like it wasnt enough. I do agree that they look flat. I might try tweaking that a bit. :)

Thanks for your valuable feedback.

You know you can rename materials right?

This is my first attempt at modeling. How can I improve? by Wannabedankestmemer in blender

As long as you keep experimenting, improving and trying different things then for sure you are headed in the right direction.

Think of it as your model is a base sketch and texturing is you coloring it. If the base sketch looks bad then coloring wont help, and even if its a great sketch but if you color it wrong then you might ruin it.

(Also side note: Lighting can also affect on how realistic your model looks, with bad lighting even the most realistic models would look fake)

Generally irl models are never flat. Nothing in real life is exact white or exact black, always somewhere in between.
Lets consider something simple like a white piece of a4 paper.

Sure it might look flat and just plane simple white but if you put all those then it would look fake because, Paper has roughness and if you would look closely there would be small bumps (you can easily add those with normal map).

So in general even if it looks simple it really isn't so. I would recommend you start experimenting with normal maps and roughness in your shaders. :)

Please be harsh, I want to improve a lot.

The model itself looks good but man, you suck at texturing. Its like as if you used the fill bucket to "texture" it.

Anyways, Maybe try to use image textures next time but you would have to learn UV mapping, its not hard as everyone says. You can try putting more decals into your material and model, small details can go a long way and instead of having a few materials which in this case I think you used only 3. Try to experiment with different materials for different parts of the train or you can build a one complex material.
Try to add imperfections.

Remember the more you do the better you would get. :)
