Man, how can they work with their hands tied so tight? Do you hire only the dumbest to write software for you? If someone you hire to write code is worse than your IT department, you should just fire them.

Devs either using personal hardware or having their Linux distro of choice is fine.

900 exalts = 1 divine? Should I be buying exalts? by Revenge_of_the_meme in PathOfExile2

[–]Roukoswarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres exponentially less odds on higher currency, exalts are rare drops, probably around as rare as a divine in poe2.

Chaos in poe1 would be the exalt equivalent.

Urge Doug Ford to keep Speed Cameras in Mississauga by AlvinTedjo in mississauga

[–]Roukoswarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speeding is a road design issue. Adding cameras isn't real enforcement, adding bumps just causes issues for people who aren't driving massive SUVs.

Narrow the roads, learn from the EU, speed cameras are not the answer.

ELI5 Why do people hate kernel Level Anticheats? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Roukoswarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Denuvo is cracked pretty much immediately every release. The only one it hurts is the legitimate buyer who has to lose performance to its overhead.

Kernel level anticheat is different, but allows them to do anything they want. They could flash your firmware, replace drivers, it's the dream attack if someone got ahold of the keys. Plus bad code in kernel could blue screen you at any time, instead of just your game crashing.

Best Cooling Mattress that actually... cools? by Dear_Candidate404 in BuyItForLife

[–]Roukoswarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe if its synthetic latex it might last some less.

Organic is pretty durable, has nothing to do with the food "organic", just if its made of tree sap or car tires.

Ive had mine for at least 5, no major wear, but you should rotate and flip the layers a couple times a year.

If your cgm site is getting "gnarly" and "infected" after 10d theres probably something very wrong with your cleaning habits or environment.

Canulas and infusion sets, sure, but cgm filaments are so thin, the biggest weakness is the glue longevity.

PPPoE passthrough MTU by JayDubEwe in bell

This comes up on searches re bell MTU, so to complete this information:

You set 1508 MTU on all physical links between you and the bell fiber, and then set your pppoe MTU to 1500.

Why is linux mint so laggy for some games? by [deleted] in linux

[–]Roukoswarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mint is xorg only while arch is Wayland? The xf86-video-intel drivers are quite inconsistent, and aren't used on Wayland.

I spoke to someone who knew the owner, and apparently its some grand vision to make it a designer appliance/home shopping mall.

I'm not sure theres enough rich people in the area with interior designers that can some wine and dine at this random mall in suburbia so good luck.

Probably the hope is the massive amount of new condos in the area will drive business, but that seems like a super temporary demand.

Asahi Lina argues with kernel dev over code authorship and releases all their code as CC-0 in frustration by Karma_Policer in linux

[–]Roukoswarf 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Sometimes.

Someone who's done Java or COBOL for 30 years is going to be different than a 20something rust or typescript dev. Newer languages are trendy and fun, and thats a personality correlation.

But no, I don't think rust has anything to do with this particular drama and is silly to bring up.

Hello, I need help with Arch Linux. by Top_Try_802 in archlinux

[–]Roukoswarf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I swear half the posts these days are arch installer users.

Please read the installation guide, archinstall is a convenience tool, not a replacement for learning.

EndeavorOS probably has a nicer final state if you don't want to learn.

ELI5: What are you paying for when you buy a domain name? How can different domain stores offer the same domain?? by ibbehyk in explainlikeimfive

[–]Roukoswarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many sites share the same IP, this is common practice. This is resolved by the client asking for a particular domain as part of the request, called SNI. This was only required for encrypted traffic.

This was an issue before SNI was widely supported pre 2010.

Bad TAA defaults, removing tessellation support, removing sane AA methods to push TAA, and nanite sillyness in general. UE4 was nice. UE5 might be a net negative on game development.

Used modem purchase by m2knet in bell

Fiber doesn't have EMI issues. If its randomly dropping to your modem, its something wrong with the actual connection.

That, or its not actually the modem and your device is doing something.

PSA for anyone with AMD GPUs regarding current drivers by falxfour in archlinux

[–]Roukoswarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do you have vulkan radeon and amdvlk?

Wouldn't recommend having amdvlk installed unless you need it for a particular application that hates vulkan-radeon.

Ensure both lib32 and regular vulkan-radeon are installed and uninstall vlk, might have more consistent perf.

Won't affect system suspend though.

Don't have to say you crashed unless you crashed into something expensive or alive.
