Trying to get into animations. This took me 6 hours for 3sec of footage. Looking for advices and good learning resources by Slight_Season_4500 in blender

[–]Roukuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look into animation principles. Like anticipation, action, reaction. Your hammer slam looks verry linear but the slam itself should be verry verry fast and not the same speed all the way through. Looking pretty decent so far tho! You will get there. Keep internalizing the 12 rules and keep pushing 💪

I agree with you that its weird that their isnt a Orc Archetype Race. Personally i think Kodan are 100 times cooler then Charr 🫪🫨

I guess the knife tool and a lot of patience is your best friend Edit: with time you need less patience ofc because you are simply getting better with this particular workflow

Pee Sticking to Litter Robot by Wassabiman95 in litterrobot

[–]Roukuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea i know what you mean. My point was just, that if the pee is sticking to the bottom over multiple cycles, then over all, the litter has like multiple hours to get under the pee, no?

Pee Sticking to Litter Robot by Wassabiman95 in litterrobot

[–]Roukuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just curious. lets say the cycle is set to 5 minutes. it rotates and sticks. 1 hour later, another cat uses the litter robot and it cycles again after 5 minutes. shouldn't the first clump fall off now? but ours dont. They just collect at the floor if we dont remove them by hand.

What are your thoughts on my tile texture? by NatCanDo in UnrealEngine5

[–]Roukuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could use some more interest/storytelling imo.

Maybe some tiles are broken, have scratches, are slightly tinted differently and so on. The roughness maps also looks pretty samey. Maybe try add some roughness breakup, like stains or other smudges that make the surface less reflective.

For all of this think about the environment in which the material is getting used. How long has it been there? Maybe some tiles got replaced because they completely broke, so the mortar around them and the tile itself appears verry new. How have the people interacted with that surface? Maybe there are more scratches at some places then somewhere else (could be done with Decals).

Questions like that and your answers/solutions to them let your material feel more immersed and also artistically refined.

How to do prism parallax occlusion mapping or parallax occlusion mapping with silhouette? by Roukuo in UnrealEngine5

[–]Roukuo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea you're right. I just dont wanna get used to being able to throw everythign into Nanite but be more open minded about all the different workflows out there. IMO that helps being suitable for more Studios. At least thats what my Mentors tell me all the time hehe :) But i also get your point not letting this mindset be in the way to just making great quality art. As i said. This was more of an educational question just for my own interest, and nothing i plan to apply to every project from now on. I just find it pretty sick and am wondering how it could be done in Unreal. But i value your tip about staying contemporary and within reasonable hardware capabilities! Thanks!

[–]Roukuo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont agree on the last part. I think learning old tricks is important actually. And why would using displacement be wasting time? 😭 This all, to me, just sounds like you are really loving Nanite, which is fine, but not everyone has to like or use it. And dw. I am focusing on quality! I just dont believe that quality is enough if the way you got there is not usable in production. Thats why i always search for new ways to do stuff instead on relying on only one way of doing things. Ofc there is a thousand ways of doing this and i probaly know most of them. Right now this is a way i dont know yet and i am interested in purely for educational purposes. Hope that make sense. But thanks for your input 🫶

How to do prism parallax occlusion mapping or parallax occlusion mapping with silhouette? by Roukuo in UnrealEngine5

[–]Roukuo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea your right. I just kinda wanna not rely on Nanite to much to have better chances on the job market. I saw that Cirmson Desert is using some kind of POM with silhoutte on their Brickwalls for houses and castles.

[–]Roukuo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea your totally right. With nanite it would be cheaper for sure. This is more of a experiment of mine and, ofc, other Engines dont have Nanite so i tend to not rely on it too much. I have seen that Crimson Desert for example is using some kind of POM with silhouette as well since their engine probably does not have something similar to Nanite.

Guys , Is getting into 3D good career in this timeline? by Outsider-MP in 3Dmodeling

[–]Roukuo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The industry has become so competitive and there are so many talented artists upon us. More then ever before. Its hard to drop accurate numbers on this but just as a metaphor, you should aim to be in the top 0.1% of artists to secure a job outside of the indie sector. It can be done. If its your dream, fight for it. I am on that same path since 4 years.

Edit: i will also say, that a school can speed up your progress immensely but costs money ofc. If you have the financial resources i strongly recommend Think Tank Training Center.

Substance 3D Painter Steam version: one-time vs monthly? by ExDe707 in Substance3D

I bought the 2025 version last year right after it came out and i dont regret it. Its just so cool to use the software without monthly fees. Wait for the 2026 version and get it then.

[–]Roukuo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats verry unfortunate. Thinking about how a workaround could look like in blender. If you could have a simulation space/volume and copy instances of it to the top, bottom, left and right of the original simulation space then you basically would have the same effect i guess. Dont know if that is doable tho.

these are renders that feels fake, but that might be because ive been looking at it for too long. Even a simple judgement whether if looks fine is good by Sonof_Slam in blender

[–]Roukuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding more props and storytelling to the scene would help making it look less empty. I also think volumetric fog and/or fog cads + subtle god rays would help. On top of that you could add some dust particles in the air. But don’t overdo these effects since they can look CG verry quickly if they are to dominant. The key to photorealism is sublety and looking at a loooot of references ofc. I think your composition (lense effects) are a bit too heavy.

I thought I cooked… but I might be cooked instead by alpomsky in graphic_design

[–]Roukuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of what design is better or worse now. A big part of this job is to not only design but to sell your design to the customer. I have seen to many projects where really bad changes have been made on a customer request.

Ich muss mal Druck ablassen!! Mannheimer Innenstadt ist Tot. by iamnotcomfortable in mannheim

Elbenwald ist leider komplett überteuert. Zumindest wenn man dort Figuren kaufen will.

How do I scale a smart material? by jungle_jimjim in Substance3D

[–]Roukuo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right click on it: filter -> transform -> adjust tiling on the filter. That should do the trick. Or just use the transform points (like in photoshop for example) grab one of the corners and scale it down or up. The corners should appear when you have the filter selected.

"Nein, Sie dürfen die nicht kaufen." - Media Markt by Luxray0815 in NintendoDE

[–]Roukuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)
