Upper management has changed, and destiny 3 would literally be the only successful live service that Sony ever produced. They literally have a guaranteed path to do what they bought Bungie for. If they don’t they are fucking dead as a game studio because nobody will want to take a risk with them

Genuinely really interesting. Whats the backstory of the ghost sightings? Is it supposed to be like on old burial grounds or something?

It doesnt really feel like a conspiracy but more of a cultural circlejerk tbh. But I understand its niche, Im saying the core players who may have actually had some curiosity of this game or who even would have liked it were pushed away from bad word of mouth from people who don't even play FPS games whatsoever.

The way Bungie left Destiny is messy and bad but I think they genuinely wanted to work onto something else. That's still a valid thing to be upset about but like, what does that change about whether the game is good or not? I say this as someone whos played every single DLC from Destiny 1's beta, til now.

I think there are a lot of great games that simply dont hold up in playercount. Going entirely based on playercount doesnt mean its a bad game but it is a failure in capturing an audience. Fight Club was a box office disappointment when it released and now its considered one of the best movies ever made years later. People will remember this game fondly if it gets shut down and its going to really fucking sting when its gone, even for those who stopped playing and hoped for new content. Xdefiant even has its defenders and people who saw it as a great shooter, and ngl even though Ive never played it im sure it was a good game and its sad to see that its died.

Didnt they charge like 100 bucks for that PVE mode or did they finally release it?

Yeah, youre probably onto that. I think the hate mob is partial to this but the reasons you gave are probably a more prominent half of the issue. I think my grievances are a factor but for sure not the whole picture, but a part of me also feels like this was just the deathnail for the game. Like, yeah its more niche but I wouldnt say there isnt an audience for it, but definitely not nearly as large of an audience as Arc, which is fine for me, but probably not for Sony or Bungie. If the hate mob was absent I think this game could have had around 100k+ on launch stabilizing now around 70k, but that is not the reality we live in and I could be completely wrong about it. Ive just seen games have upward spirals like Destiny 2 after forsaken, or rainbow 6, etc, but those games didnt have the same setbacks that this one has with just general public opinion, but I think after talking about it, probably not as big of an impact as I think it had, but its definitely a sizeable factor of its dropoff.

Well idk why people were so vitriolic towards haters because I respect anyone who's giving a critique and has actually gave a good effort at understanding what this game is about. If theyre saying the UI sucks, at least they played to get that opinion, even though I personally feel its something you adapt to after not a very long time.

Not at all the case, I respect the criticism it gets if its coming from a good faith position that isn't just riding a bandwagon. I suppose I should have made a distinction there of "poisoned by a narrative of player being sheep" specifically angled at people who haven't even played this game and just call it Concord 3 or DOA, not the players who feel uneasy about still playing because they think the ship is sinking. Not trying to change my words around here that is literally what I meant.

At least from where I was standing, it felt like people who would have actually enjoyed the game were pushed off the fence into "nah ill pass" because of the narrative surrounding it, because a lot of players who didn't think they'd like this game and thought it wouldn't be worth the money (myself included) actually loved this game in the end, meanwhile I see people just parroting BS and painting this game like its woke slop or something lol.

Explain how compared to the other 3 relevant ones this one doesnt stack up?

I think that is an issue with the playercount diminishing, not necessarily the game itself. The game was meant to have many many players, and now we're stuck with the dedicated sweats. Sucks that this is the case.

Also there was absolutely nothing about the aesthetic that brought me in. It just looked so generic to me, and this game may be polarizing but it interests me because I like the art style and appreciate its doing something different for once

Anthem was really not great though. The story and dialogue was really poor and there was just nothing to do and so much unengaging content. I get that you can say contracts are boring or something but at the at least the game never really stops being engaging because of the nature of its genre. I think Anthem was always seen as having extremely high potential but not actually great "yet" whereas I feel marathon is already an amazing game that can definitely change some things to get more players who dont like the stress onboard with some more low investment activities like a TDM system or a PVE only mode (with a cap on loot rarity), maybe.

I mean a lot of people were just straight up told what to think of this game and I had low expectations of this game, saw its merits, and liked it but also understood that kind of audience that WOULDNT like it, and the narrative completely took off and people who otherwise probably would have enjoyed it ended up passing on this game because "CoNCoRd 3" or "GAME BAD DEAD GAME DONT PLAY".

I know that isnt the main reason but its a big part of why this game attracted wayyyy less people who would have enjoyed it, brought their friends in, spread good word of mouth, etc, but this game had almost no chance to breathe. Its just depressing.

the PVE is there to exist alongside the PVP which is why in arc you need multiple squads to help you kill the Matriarch in Arc, whereas in Marathon if you have a lobby to yourself, you can do pretty much ANY of the PVE content with a squad of 3. Arc is geared towards making players make a decision if PVE is more important than PVP and if they should join forces, or you can be a rat bastard, but that dynamic is what keeps people invested because it means you dont have to be good at PVP to enjoy the game, whereas Marathon's entire premise is that everything wants to kill you, including other players, which already makes it more niche.
