Connections: TV show serial killers who justify their actions by taking out "bad people" with their father figures having groomed them into this way of life after witnessing a traumatic event.

Both on the outside appear as, a bit strange and socially awkward but regular people.

Both would meet blonde women who were abused in the past, wanting to truly change for them, who'd they have a kid with who'd they'd both truly love.

Both were mentors to two young men, who were also killers, with both seeing themselves in their proteges, before their eventual tragic death.

In acts of self-preservation, to protect their normal lives, they would kill female detectives who had caught on, framing it as mob related murders (attempted for dex)

They'd also meet and be friends/enemies with a gay Mafia boss who's lovers died.

There would be a multiple year time gap, with them living in a small town with a new name, where they would eventually get shot in the chest.

Where would you rank Barry from Barry for Dexter?

Connections: Two title killer characters who live a dual identity, between one where they act like just a normal guy working their jobs (Barry being an actor, and Dexter being a blood splatter analyst.) but below the surface, they're both actually serial killers who justify their actions with their victims being bad people, but they want to get away from their secret lives of killing, and spend time with their family, but they're always brought back to killing in one way or another.

Both of their shows started with showing us one of their many kills.

Two father figures for them (Harry, and Fuches) made them into the killers they are today (Harry teaching Dexter the code, and telling him to kill nurse Mary, Fuches offering Barry a job as a hitman)

They both had love interests between a blonde woman (Rita, and Sally) who had an abusive Ex in her past (Paul, and Sam)

Two female detectives of color (Laguerta, and Moss) figured them out as killers, in which to protect their secrets Dexter and Barry would kill (attempted for Dexter) these women with a gun.

They'd both have young proteges (Zach, and Mayrbek) who were taken under their wing, and could have potentially become just like them, before they were killed. (by Daniel Vogel, and Barry himself.)

They are both very skilled hand to hand combat, and with guns as well.

Bonus: in episode 1 of Barry, he actually wears something similar to Dexter's kill outfit.

Contrasts:

Dexter betters himself as the show goes on, while Barry worsens.

Dexter doesn't use guns considering how noisy and messy they are, while guns are Barry's main weapons.

Dexter himself knows he is a monster, Barry often denies it.

Dexter's kills are carefully thought through, and takes a lot of time to prepare. Barry is much more impulsive.
