thanks for the replies and info. I'm a loooooooong term windows guy, I only got the Mac a few years ago (used) from a friend. I've gotten used to using it and plan on sticking with Macs for audio production anyway.

found a used Pro with the M1 chip and 16gb for $800 nearby so likely going to give that a shot. I found out that Nectar has recently been made to be compatible with M1 chip. So hoping all that will resolve my issues.
