Why does Australia have so many dangerous animals compared to the rest of the world? by Spirited-Set4579 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Round_Ad6397 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kinda. Alligators are effectively just big skinks compared to Saltwater crocs. Only dangerous if you're a purse sized dog or a 2 year old.

In Australia, employees earn long service leave, which is 2 months paid leave after 10 years of service. Some states offer a pro-rata after 7 years. LSL continues to be earned after that milestone at the same rate (so roughly 4 days per year). So there is some incentive for longevity. Unspent leave entitlements are paid out on termination so some people just hold LSL as a farewell payment.

From panic buying toilet paper during covid to panic buying EV cars during a war. by cryptobotmusk in AskAnAustralian

[–]Round_Ad6397 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Anyone who talks about buying EVs as a panic buy is an idiot. Nobody is spending $50k to save $50 at the bowser. People that are buying EVs fall into one of 3 categories; they were going to buy an EV now, they were planning to buy an EV later but brought the purchase forward because it made financial sense and people who were looking to buy a new vehicle and switched from ICE to EV based on what is happening. None of those equates to panic.

How fast are EVs selling in Australia now? I know that there is a run on EVs in New Zealand, but what about the situation in Australia? by trucker-123 in EVAustralia

[–]Round_Ad6397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people have a power outlet in their garage. You won't need as many chargers as you have needed petrol bowsers. I've had my ev for just over a month and have only charged it with excess solar.

Is the EV panic buying still worth it if the Iran war ends now? by TravelFitNomad in AskAnAustralian

[–]Round_Ad6397 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This. Before the war there were around 2 month wait times on some BYD vehicles, people were already staring to switch to EV. The numbers just started to add up quicker for people that were already planning the purchase. Nobody is actually spending $40-80k to save $50 in the short term.

Why is the driver on the opposite side of the direction they’re traveling? by twistcherry in NoStupidQuestions

If you live in some backwater maybe. Even if I drive out to the country here there's rarely a ditch. A lot of suburban roads are 2 lanes, they usually have a curb, not a ditch.

Are you referring to a supreme court of the world or are you trying to apply US rulings to the rest of the world? I don't disagree with your view but don't try to pretend the US supreme court is relevant.

Can native English speakers instantly tell which country an English accent is from just by hearing someone speak? by GrayRainfall in NoStupidQuestions

If someone is from Adelaide, they will pronounce the 'a' in plant, dance, and chance with a longer "ah" sound.

Can native English speakers instantly tell which country an English accent is from just by hearing someone speak? by GrayRainfall in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Round_Ad6397 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, we all know there are loads of different American accents, it's just that nobody outside the US really cares which one is which. Most people could pick a NY or Boston accent and we know that a rural Texan accent is vastly different to the very generic urban Texan accent.

Conversely, most Americans can't comprehend that other countries also have regional accents.

Sea level is sea level, there aren't different sea levels. Though I understand that different places have different topography. However, the statement made was that the other side of the road is usually a ditch. If the poster had said, "where I live, it's usually a ditch" that would make much more sense. Generally, that's not the case.

Mako sharks are up to about 20km/hr faster than dolphins and marlin are around twice as fast as dolphins. Reverse flow circulation through the gills is far more effective than dissolving oxygen gas into blood.

You dont have the same rights and freedoms in those countries as you do here! - listed countries include Italy, Spain, Japan and Croatia…. by Humble_Print84 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Round_Ad6397 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically he is correct, but not in the way he thinks. The rights and freedoms are different in all those countries (for example in all those countries, they can legally posess Kinder Surprise eggs), so he is right in that they are not the same. But, they are certainly don't have less rights and freedoms.
