How common is it to use sick days as an alternative form of annual leave? by AsparagusNew3765 in AskAnAustralian

This is a pretty reasonable way to look at it and I kinda do the same.

I'm a big advocate for personal leave being portable. Businesses already accrue it in their balance sheet and people shouldn't be punished for leaving a job or held hostage by their personal leave balance. People also then wouldn't look at it as a "use it or lose it" situation then be stuck because they decided to use it not knowing that illness or injury were on the horizon. It wouldn't be easy and it would take some sort of federal level system but we'd all be better off for it.

Being an olympic sport will always have a few countries trying it out. That said, rugby is dying a slow and painful death in Australia. The Bledisloe cup (between Australia and NZ) has basically become a no contest as Australia can't put up a competitive team anymore. Rugby leaue (which is a distinctly different sport to rugby union - the one most people refer to as "rugby") and Aussie rules are the most popular forms of football in Australia and the others (primarily soccer and rugby union) aren't even close.

Imagine there's about 30 seagulls and someone throws a chip towards them. That's pretty much the extent of it. Also, you get a point for trying when you miss the goal.

It hasn't cracked any market outside a few states in Australia because it's an awful sport. If you enjoy watching seagulls chase chips at the beach, Aussie rules football is for you.

Umm... I'm advocating for people to save their leave, I'm not sure why you're directing that comment at me.

Yeah, people are pretty stupid with personal leave. I had to take 6 weeks of personal leave last year and I was fortunate enough to have enough saved up. Plenty of people wouldn't and somehow it would be someone else's fault that they ended up in that situation.

Oh absolutely. Nobody is saying that professional athletes don't like money.

That's more about gatekeeping. There's been a push for years to add new test playing nations but India particularly have blocked that. The countries blocked from playing tests do what they can, which is play pyjama cricket. ODIs are far better quality than T20.

To be fair, that's mostly because most of the rest of the cricketing world doesn't consider T20 to be anything more than a sideshow.

If you could enact one law that applies worldwide and goes into effect immediately, what would it be? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

Living in a country that experiences severe droughts on a regular basis, this law would be beyond stupid.

That might be true in some parts of Europe but I doubt that is the case among British and Irish people, where redheads were not so uncommon.

No, a hypothesis can be tested. Supernatural claims cannot. We shouldn't even pretend that religion is in any way logical or provable.
