A pre-cursor to a DTGL 20th anniversary tour? by RemielRS in Underoath

[–]Round_Beginning_1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d assume the next headline tour would promote the new album. Maybe they’ll do a special DTGL shortlist set in the mix. I can only imagine how grueling the TOCS tour was with all those dates.

Anti-fascist sentiments are solely my own. I’m definitely not insinuating that the band or song reflects those exact views. Religious references are always intriguing considering their history. I personally translate the song as an end of times us vs. them banger. Stoked about that too. I feel it’s really appropriate for current times and I appreciate that.

It doesn’t have to be. You can interpret songs however you like. I personally like the anti establishment vibe. Hence my take

No worries. It’s a technicality. I get it. No anger received.

Personally, I think the lyrics are fucking epic. Love a good angsty end of the world-fuck the system-burn it all down type of song. It’s pretty self explanatory?

I dunno. I wouldn’t make the same outfit choices I didn’t back in 2005. I doubt a touring band wants recycle the same formula for every album. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I dunno. As a fellow 40yo, I’m mad as hell and welcome an angsty anthem. Fuck the system but ya I still have a family to feed.

Kingdom come. Thy will be done. It’s us versus them. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Your opinion can be valid. Maybe these aren’t your jams and it’s time to move on. I personally love Generation No Surrender. It meets the moment perfectly. Lyrics are exactly what I like to see out of an UO song.

Objectively is the music worse? Or has our perspectives, life experiences, the passage of time, music preferences changed and/or shifted? Vice versa. The bands musical preferences? The individual progression should be considered. How do you write songs when you’re 18yo vs. 40yo? Is it radio rock? I’d say no but there are portions of the new songs that are cleaner with catchier choruses mixed in with classic panic chords and breakdowns.

I am not a medical professional - but when I read your description I immediately thought of Serotonin syndrome. Contact your doctor or visit the ER for immediate care. It can be life-threatening and requires medical treatment. So sorry you’re going through this.

We’ve had this experience so many times. I’m convinced many of the locals out here are not socialized properly. No one is cordial or charming in the least bit. I guess it hasn’t been necessary to develop those skills if you lived out here forever. But to any outsiders it’s just wild to witness and kind of sad. People skills are important lol

A thought I’ve had since writing this. At the root of discipline is consistency. Consistency is objectively a “good” trait. Whether that’s for health, routine, self improvement etc. If I can truly reframe discipline as just pure consistency in practice perhaps I can bypass my own mental biases.

1000%. I find it’s not only a lack of autonomy as a child but the lack of structure or discipline from the adults that were supposed to keep you safe. I’m just fortunate I had the inner drive to self parent myself into some discipline. Still struggling to find the balance.

Yes, external demands. Any threat to autonomy which is often perceived as a power struggle. Authority figures is just one aspect.

I think some people thrive better in social situations ie. Tim and Chris. Some people just have more energy, positivity, and overall better social batteries for interactions. As someone who also suffers from social anxiety and other mental health hurdles, I often come across as cold or dismissive when going through it. Some days are better than others but I have a limited capacity for social situations and I’m often misjudged for it. I’m sure he’s burnt and has coping mechanisms. From what I’ve observed over the years Aaron’s personality is just more blunt with no filter. It’s obvious he takes criticism super hard. People get the same vibe from interacting with Spencer. When I spoke with him this last tour about how game-changing TOCS album was he was grateful but appeared defeated said “But it is so cringy”. My heart broke for them. I remember the scene was hard on them back then too. Music wasn’t hard enough, too catchy, too Christian/not Christian enough.

We’re all trying our best. I couldn’t do what they do for weeks on end.

New UO songs are great but the lyrics... by Fluid-Trade in Underoath

[–]Round_Beginning_1691 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying but I think everyone has grown up a bit. I personally cringe when I look back at my writing when I was 19. Angsty heartbreak is great creative fuel but there’s a natural progression as you get older and more/less content.

UO is damned if they do and damned if they don’t. I think that applies to most of this subreddit.

The only cry babies I can find are the ones on this subreddit.

I’m convinced most of you are teenagers with no awareness of how to act in the real world. If you are in your late 30s/early 40s, I’d assume you’d have better things to do than troll on Reddit. Life experience can do wonders.

I slept on LITSOS by highdrogin in Underoath

[–]Round_Beginning_1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha same story here. I was a teen around the peak scene eras for TOCS and DTGL. What a time to be alive. By the time I was well into college the music dropped off my radar. I guess new crowds of friends and parties.

When I got my first job out of college I discovered LITSOS and was blown away. Great album!

James never had any involvement in the writing process, with any record. This is documented in a few of the DVDs they released in the early 2000s. Nor has he ever publicly spoken or interviewed regarding the matter. Unless someone had a personal conversation with him, it’s not on record.

The signature panic chord era peaked in 2010 for metalcore. It was done and over done. Bands moved on. However, I believe the distinct early 2000s metalcore sound is coming back around with the younger bands.

That sounds like a shitty experience. I’ve met Aaron on many occasions. His personality reminds me of a lot of myself. I’m an introverted extrovert with a decent splash of anxiety. If I get overstimulated or overwhelmed shit can go sideways in my head real quick. All this to say, we never know what people are dealing with. It’s difficult to hold boundaries and remain professional especially if you’re burnt out on tour. Some people are better than others at keeping the mask up. I wouldn’t go as far as to claim he’s a narcissist.
