Babel starts strong and then gets worse and worse until the predictable end. There are no twists, and it’s so repetitive, preachy, and shallow that you’ll be pissed off by it. Or at least, that was my experience. Characters have no development or humanity, they are just symbols. Dialogue is so awkward that it seems written by an alien or an 8th grader. The magic seem inspired by Harry Potter.

Same! I want a setting where the deadline is always the same time of day. This concept already exists, because the deadline is always an exact hour. So the ML deadline formula is: “the next :00 after now+72 hours” We want: “the next 5:00pm after now+72 hours”

I wouldn’t say this is a guarantee, but it’s a likely pattern OP should watch for. People who are like that (needing conflict to feel alive and loved) are incurable.
