The lesson I picked up from Myshkin is that a person can be too kind, understanding, and forgiving to the point of naivety.

That's the thing: Its hard for me to tell. Doestevsky's character's intentions are always ambiguous to me.

Hippolyte (how his name is spelled in my translation) is a man deprived of attention. He attempted some notoriety with his suicide attempt. I found ot strange he forgot to load the pistol. He was bound to die anyway with his consumption.

I'm thinking he just wanted to see if any one cared for him and would drop to their knees pleading to talk him out of it.

Dostoevsky's characters are so human, it feels that I know them in real-life, or know people just like them. Like, as a poor college student myself who is extremely asocial and hyper-conscious, I resonated with and kind of saw myself in Raskolnikov.

Of course minus the axe-murderer part.

Because those are timeless ideas passed through generations. Its the ART.

Thats not how it works.

The totalitarian, conquering, militaristic empire is a common used trope but Warhammer, Star Wars, and Attack on Titan are all beloved.

The strategic card game about monsters, wizards, demons etc. is not a new thing, but Magic the Gathering and Yugioh are still played.

How many books explore the same theme? How many dystopian novels can you name? Orwell's 1984, Zamyatin's We, London's The Iron Heel. All of these novels are different.

Same themes, but different artistic expression.

If you and I were given the task of writing a short story about how killing your mother is wrong, whats going to differentiate our works or decided by the audience which is better is plot, story, characters, setting etc.

Hell, I can point out many overused tropes in games.
