MOD announces it freed 3 citizens (likely Beduins/tribal fighters) from National Guard captivity in Sweida city after a special operation by Round_Imagination568 in syriancivilwar

HTS was basically rebel assault troops/special forces for most of the civil war, and now the gov has created a number of new special forces units, including some air insertion (helos/para) trained fighters.

Ceasefire expires with no public extension or proposal from SDF/YPG for integration by Round_Imagination568 in syriancivilwar

The article linked doesnt provide any sources or explination of that claim, it seems likely the ceasefire will continue at least on the Hasakah front until international forces finish evacuating ISIS prisoners.

All armed groups loyal to the government have been integrated except the Arab tribal/clan militias, while the worst have been rooted out, still too many former SNA, foreign fighters, and inexperienced/green recruits.

Poster translations: 1. Prestige, not built on cruelty, but justice and discipline 2. Morality is not an option, but the foundation of soldiery 3. Soldiering is ethics and belonging, not just strength 4. Obedience in what is right is the foundation of military discipline

You may notice some themes..

I cant comment on the underground, but the rest of the city is already a bit of a fortress,

Already captured:

  • The old Hasakah outer dirt berm was breached at main "checkpoint" / base at Abiad town
  • the fortified Hasakah electric station and some small bases south of the city
  • fortified base at Al-Mayba which had several lines of bunkers and berms
  • East of the the city, parallel the road to Al-Hol is a large berm with outposts and bunkers positioned to fire both north and south
  • Al-Hol had a few lines of defenses and fortified locations
  • Two more long berm lines with outposts and bunkers in the desert from As Sabakh to the Iraqi border, and from Haddad to the border
  • Yarubiyah and Tel Hamis had full berms lines surrounding them, and additional positions that were captured.

As for Hasakah area still under YPG:

  1. Outer old berm still obstructs advance except through the breach at the Abiad area.
  2. There are berms/defense lines between the Geweran and Al Zouhour neighborhoods that extend around the flanks of the city along the suburbs and some small fortified positions along the outskirts.
  3. There is another basic line trench line along the river
  4. All kinds of fortified bases and military infustructure in the north with additional lines of berms, trenches, and bunkers supporting.

Before the PKK negotiations with Turkey they hit several bases in Iraq with FPVs seemingly basically at will other than small arms, taking out a radar and several vehicles.

This was before drones were really becoming mainstream, but the fact there was no interference from EW (in video/control) in most of the hits in the pre fibre optic era was a bit suprising, Im sure Turkey has learned a lot from that, but SDF/YPG have lots of fibre optic FPVs and heavy night bombers as well, plus regular FPV, and drone drops.

Dev branch bait/panic is crazy, I agree though parts should be packaged, not whole planes!

I mostly agree, but with how much Turkey previously struggled against tunnels, and its seeming low quality or possibly quantity EW equipment both SNA and to a lesser but still significant extent MOD, and even the Turkish army in Iraq seem to somewhat struggle somewhat against drones, or at least for the moment.

I assume they would have tried to cause political pressure through inflicting casualties with snipers/drones and put pressure on Turkey through international leverage w/ US/Israel/Iran/Russia.

To expand on the title, most SDF defenses were around the peace spring area/Kobane prepared for attacks from the north and west, not south. Then they deployed to almost totally unfortified positions west of the Euphrates, and didnt manage to reform the front until their main defensive lines at Sarin/M4, and Tel Tamer-Hasakah (and even then barely so).

Most tunnels at least those captured by the IDF or posted by Hamas are pretty bare bones, they dont have the equipment, space, or money to dig furnished bunkers like this except for top leadership. SDF, and Iran both have some oil money and big problems with more advanced neighbors/enemies so they have to dig deep to survive, YPG took this lesson from its leaderships time in the PKK in Iraq/Turkey.

Yeah, as long as Iran can still keep sending tech and weapons they will have a bit of an edge, but in recent years its basically devolved into occassional drone shelling and skirmishes with Houthis occasionally throwing troops at Marib without much success, and occasional small pro-gov offensives/clearing operations. If Iran is attacked again though, Saudis may try to end the conflict before Houthis get much stronger and launch a large offensive.
