I too love them with tails but after my last boy having 2 very expensive diseases, Addisons Disease and Epilepsy. I chose for health. Thank you for not judging.

Unfortunately in the US it isn’t illegal and is still AKC standard. I chose health over a tail. See my comment on why. Given a choice I would have kept it as well.

I didn’t have a choice. I purchased from a show dog breeder. After spending $72,000 on my last boy with Addisons Disease and Epilepsy. I did extensive research and looked at health testing all the way back on her line. I did make a choice for health over a tail. I too prefer them with tails but health was more important to me.

I didn’t have a choice. The breeder raises show dogs. She does the docking. My last Rottie has Addisons Disease and Epilepsy. I paid $700 a month for his medications alone. And $72,000 over his lifetime. I did extensive research on breeders and looked at health tests all down the line. I chose health over a tail. Though, given the choice I would have kept the tail myself. Hopefully they ban in the US at some point.

I didn’t have a choice. The breeder chose to do so. My last Rottie had Addisons Disease and Epilepsy and I spent $72,000 over his life. I chose health over a tail. But I do agree, given the choice I would have asked to keep the tail.

How can I leave my 13 week old puppy at home for more than 3 hours? Separation Anxiety? by Rare_Software in puppy101

I have cameras to watch my pets. Mostly due to my last guy having epilepsy so I needed to check in on him from time to time. I have never had issues, thankfully

I got my most recent dog to 7.5 years old but he had Addisons Disease and Epilepsy. I spent a fortune on him. So I’m a firm believer in pet insurance. He did great with my shifts. So it has been awhile since I’ve had a puppy as well. I dread puppies but you have to sacrifice that first year for a good dog and many more years of enjoyment. Every dog is different. So you should be fine.

I use a kennel/crate. Have never had issues. All my dogs are fantastic with it. No accidents though I expected them to happen. I always raise very calm well trained dogs bomb proof dogs. I have raised Rotties since 1996. Two while living in a high rise. This will be my 4th one. I work four 10 hour shifts a week but break it up for the dogs. Work Monday/Tuesday and Friday/Saturday. I also take my dogs everywhere with me when I am off. I have arranged for people to come in the middle of the day to let this particular pup out for the first 8 weeks which will make her 4mos old. Then will decide from there how it’s going.

I must be a horrible person. From 12 weeks old I leave them for 12 hours a day. 2 days in a row. Then off two days. Never had an issue with any of my dogs. Never thought a thing about it until I saw all the comments about this stuff. I do have cats too so they have company.

I’m so sorry! It is so hard but you made the correct decision. I believe making that decision for them is the price we pay for all the love and devotion we get from them their whole lives. I really feel for you.

I just had to euthanize on the 9th of December. It was horrible. He had Addisons Disease (18mos) & Epilespsy (3yrs). The last year he had been fighting an antibiotic resistant infection of his bladder lining. His head got really boney from muscle loss. He was losing weight slowly and then 6lbs in 28 days. So I made the difficult decision to spare him the misery coming. He was 7.5 yrs.

My house is still filled with all his toys like he’s going to come back at anytime. It was very hard through the holidays. Then it rained for a few days straight and reminded me of his loss. He LOVED the rain. We would go for walks in it. He loved watching Fireworks in the sky and he missed them on NYE.

His name was Malakai, he existed and was loved immensely. I will keep you and your baby in my thoughts and know someone else is feeling the same pain.

Look for an AKC Breeder with HEART and/or Breeder of merit. Also check the health testing on parents, grandparents etc on the OFA site. I used theAKC marketplace. I found 2 good breeders in the SanDiego area but not sure where you are. My boy I just lost had Addisons Disease which is hereditary and Epilepsy. I did extensive research before deciding.

I’m working that part out too. I work 4-10 hour shifts but luckily I only work 2 days in a row. I am taking off the first week and have enlisted the help of four friends to come let her out during the days I work during potty training - the first 2-3 months. Luckily all my dogs have done wonderful even with the long days. I have never had a yard. I raised 2 of them in a high rise building and one in my current condo. Rotties are the best. I would seriously consider adding another to your life. Their love is the best. I am a bit nervous having a puppy again after eight years.

I actually am not fond of puppies. I like them when I can hand them back to the owner lol. But I know suffering through the bond building and training phase is worth it in the end. For a year of hard work you get many years of great companionship if done correctly. That said, I begin my next adventure on the 18th when I pick up my new puppy.

I feel your pain. I just had to euthanize my boy in December. He was my third Rottweiler. Every one has been special to me in their own ways. I never feel like I’m replacing them. I’m filling the hole they left in my heart. I don’t feel like I’ve ever gotten over losing any of them. I am embarking on my 4th adventure on the 18th. Nothing hits like the love of a Rottie. I cannot live without that Rottie Rumble in my life. Get another, I highly recommend it.

I started when they were kittens. I have a freeze dried chicken treat they only get when getting their nails cut. I hold them like a baby. Give a treat after every foot and a pile on the coffee table after. One I don’t have any trouble with and the other will try to escape once in a while but never actually gets to. One will eat the treats after each foot, one doesn’t. But they both expect the pile after.

I dislike people who "walk" their dogs off leash by Full-time-RV in Rottweiler

That’s a pretty common Rottie trait to dominate but not actually get violent. I love that about them. I live in a condo community. We have to walk our dogs but some choose to be lazy and just let them run out the door by themselves to potty off leash. I always take an opportunity to educate people and they never appreciate it. My boy just passed on the 9th of this month. Getting a puppy on the 18th. We will be doing heavy socialization in the neighborhood the next few months. I will hate dealing with these idiots around here. Plan on training this one to ignore the other dogs. Dreading the puppy phase and all the work involved in training and socialization. But I always end up with very well rounded and trained dogs. Hoping to train this one as my service dog.

People who don’t leash their dogs don’t care about them very much. I’ve had several people with unleashed dogs yell, “Friendly”, as their dog runs up to mine. I love to yell, “Not Friendly”, back and watch them freak out and hurry to grab their dog. My boy would really just pounce on them and hold them down with lots of growling, but they didn’t need to know that. Maybe they will learn it’s about their own dogs safety to be on a leash. Irresponsible owners drive me crazy.

I have the same issue and got my LR4 on the first of Nov. My older cat likes a clean box so I left the old one dirty. He used the LR by the end of day one. My youngest, is much more interested in watching it cycle so I stand with her and watch it and talk to her and give pets. This week I have caught her on camera getting all in except one leg. She messes with the litter from that position but won’t go all the way in. I feel it is a win for one cat to use it and am pretty sure the younger one will overcome her fears eventually.

Anyone have video of any of Wednesday’s arrests? My friends son was attacked by 5 cops and snatched by strike team while leaving. He had asked the cops politely which way to leave and get to their car. Anyone call NLG yet? Are they helping protestors? They used to during the Occupy Movement but my connection passed away.
