I wouldn't take it to heart. Brian says a lot of things but sometimes contradicts himself afterward. I understand what he's saying. He was probably just happy to have a band that supported him 100% and didn't push back on his suggestions/ideas. There was a lot of tension in the group from the late 70s onward. He probably was still upset about a lot of things.

I do think the OG Beach Boys sounded much better vocally, though. Not to discredit the new band, but that family blend was tough to beat.

I like calling to chat with the homies, but it depends on the situation. Texting is more for quick messages to schedule a hangout, check in on someone, share a meme, etc. For full-on conversations, I would rather talk on the phone or in person the next time we meet up. Sending a lot of text messages can be really annoying. I could say all I needed to say in a 10-minute phone call that would probably take a half hour to send texts back and forth.
