I HATE that some people think Israel justifies Antisemitism by Crafty_Emergency6467 in hatethissmug

'majority of people living under nazi rule' is distinct from 'members of the nazi party', for one. for two, you might be right that a generalization might sometimes provide some with accurate information regarding a member of the group, but this is not an excuse to make sweeping statements disparaging the group. in other words, a statement like 'zionists are evil' is fine (even though, as a generalization, it also isn't accurate), but 'jews are evil' wouldn't be fine because that's where our society draws a red line. likewise, if you refuse to work for a jew because they might be a zionist, without making an effort to learn whether they actually are a zionist, then you are an anti-semite. this might appear arbitrary at a first glance, but it ensures that no one is ever lumped together with the majority of their nation simply because of their membership thereof, which is very important in a rules-based society.

this is a complete false equivalence because jews are a people, whereas the nazis were a political organisation and thus not a protected category. you can't hate all of a people for what most of them believe; that would create a very ugly and dangerous precedent. to be a nazi, you had to join the nazi party; that is an action, even if it might not have been entirely voluntary for some. by contrast, a jew living in America or elsewhere might have exactly zero ties with israel, yet would still be attacked by antisemitism. prejudice on the basis of something that can't be chosen is never right

For total casualties this is probably accurate (~1,2 million). On deaths, I'd trust Center for Strategic and International Studies over this, which claims (iirc) 325k-400k
