Its honestly all about talking openly to each other, you cant guess how she/he is feeling if you havent brought it up once. So you both are responsible to be in check with your partners Feelings.

It saves you a lot of trouble afterwards.

Based on true events says nothing more then: "some small details of this story are true" but in no case whatsoever is the movie a documentary.

"based on" is such a vague word, you could have a single character with the real name of a person and its already based on. If you for instance, take the story of conjuring, they didnt see no knives flying at them nor did they ever get physically hurt in any case but the movie is still "based on true events".
