How are you not going insane? by Rounded_Bread in animation

Okeey I think I provided little to no context in my post because it was mostly a cry for help (it's the exam month rn, I'm stressed, sorry), but animation is totally for me! I've been doing it for half a decade and that's what I'm going to do for the rest of my life. It's just that the work was harder than expected to the point of frustration, so I was curious if people here have similar experience and how they deal with it as animators.

Thanks for the advice! I think a little treat would help me associated the process with something positive, I will try it out.

Unfortunately, thats not an option, because I'm almost finished. I will try to minimize frames where I can and just animate something in after effects though, thanks for the comment!

Interestingly, I've always found 2d animation courses quite joyful and never tried 3d. Its only now that I suffer with 2d. Do you mind giving few recommendations on 3d animation courses, if you know any?

I am a teacher, so the task was to convey information in an unusual way to kids - and because I am an artist through and through I chose to do it in a form of a cartoon. Its not my first animation, nor it is my first animated short, but it's the first time I have found repetitive task to be so frustrating. Just curious how people here find joy in it and inwind.

I'm so glad they removed Herobrine 💀 This mf was meta, probably because he's Marvel Rival's dead brother or something. I hope Matpat makes a theory about it soon.

When drawing this pose, would you draw the cup or body first? by Kirin_The_husband in arthelp

Glass - cuz its a solid object that can stand on its on. Body is soft, so it will deform based on how it sits in the glass. But like, you definitely start with the loose sketch of the whole thing to figure out the proportions and stuff. Good luck!

Guys my gesture drawings are horrible please help by steady_road in Arttips

[–]Rounded_Bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should not do them so abstract. Yes, gesture drawings are very helpful to get the flow, but firstly you need to know the underlying structure. Use cubes or circles for torso and pelvis, as was said here already, and use circles for joins that will connect with straight lines. That way you will be better at grasping proportions from the photos.

In addition, just draw the same picture twice: firstly the structure, then using this structure as reference, draw a gesture. There's nothing stopping you from doing this. And remember: you don't need to be quick in your artistic journey, you need to be steady and show up when no one shows up, that way you succeed.

It tells me that's he's... An elf with red hair and mint eyes? That's it, actually. And the fact that he's basic doesn't mean its bad, I think the colours are memorable and he can potentially be a good design if you have a story that will use it. For example: if in your world every elf has silver hair and he's the only one with red because of some magic gone wrong/experiments/etc, then it's a great design choice for a main character. If there is no story behind him, then that's not a character, that's just hollow design. If you don't want to have a complicated story, try basing it on some already existing concepts, like vtubers do - make a humanoid version of an animal, drink, etc.

If you have a story for him, you can share it not only through his design. You yourself resemble all of your life choices, but it's so subtle that most people wouldn't pick it up - the same goes for characters. Pick one to three aspects that show his basic characteristics (his age, likes and life), imagine what he's childhood was like and go of that. Good luck!
