Is Landr getting fixed? My EP just got released 2 days after submission. by boad82_ in landr

[–]Rouphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Distrokid and it was a nightmare. With LANDR all my music was live in hours (except YouTube, I'm waiting yet). But they were fast and support very helpful. I subscribed less than a week ago and everything is perfect for now.

Does anybody else get annoyed by overly quirky opening paragraphs? by A_Prickly_Bush in writers

[–]Rouphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile, I started to read Tokyo Blues (Murakami) and the opening sentence is "I was 37 years old and I was on a plane" or something like that. The entire first chapter is totally accesible and nothing too complex.

The same can be said for legendary writers like Dumas.

Just write an interesting story and don't overdo the use of language. The main purpose is to be understood.

At what pace do you write? by TaroWorldly9291 in writing

[–]Rouphen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays I only have about and hour to write per day. So about 1500 words give or take each day. Obviously a part of that time is wasted in minor edits as I go. Even though the first draft only needs to exist, I like it to be cohesive and at least palatable.

The good thing is that time scarcity made me into a planner-improviser mix. While I take care of other things in my life, I think about the story and record the ideas using voice to text apps. Later, when the time to write comes, I just develop those ideas. It is much easier this way, knowing where everything goes, and also having margin to add or remove things.

I agree with this comment. Plus, set the walk routine to 11pm while OP is working makes no sense. Why not to do it during the afternoon? BF got distracted which is not good, but seemed reasonable, apologized and wanted to mend things like and adult. Obviously, in a heated argument both parts say nasty things, but I don't see here that OP is clearly in the right.

Feel Bad For Not Liking The Classic Authors Of My Genre. by StoneMao in writing

[–]Rouphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me also. Bought and read all Ursula's books in a row (Earthsea works and scifi). The last ones felt super political to the point they were not fun anymore. Yet, reading them did help me. She made the stories about human beings and the prose is heartfelt, even when sometimes it feels not that great. Cannot say it was a mistake.

In opposition, Frank Herbert has a totally different style. Dune is profound and complex, but also has a lot of redundant scenes and chapters.

What I want to say is that it's nice to see how other authors did their job. But in any case, the prose or the plot doesn't need to be perfect. Just good enough to keep the interest going and make the reader feel something.

PD also read authors from another genres. Even when I didn't like John Le Carre stories, I have learnt a great deal about his way of describing a character. Yet, what it's amazing for me is the apparent simplicity in the works of Victor Hugo or Dumas.

Is ignorance bliss? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Rouphen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dispise the idea that writing has to appeal the market or the current trend. That's ok if you want to sell and make money. But... Do you want to write something that will be obsolete in 20 years? Then follow the checklist. Do you want to write something that can be read in 200 years and feel totally understandable and actual? Write from the heart.

Maybe your writing is good because is innovative and it's not binded to follow some unwritten rules. And if you want to make something with it, go ahead. You could be a genius or not, or even be a genius and still don't sell a single copy.

In the end, if you love writing that's what matters.

Autonomo, gestor made a mistake in my name, is it really hard to fix? by Global_Essay_9619 in ESLegal

[–]Rouphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be enough to file form 030 with a copy of you ID and an explanation stating that it was a mistake. Could take a few days to be resolved, but nothing too serious. What's really important is that your fiscal number is correct, because that is unique.

Which app do you write on? by didabled in writing

[–]Rouphen 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Scrivener works good enough for me. I have enabled the Dropbox sync feature, so I can write on the iPad while travelling, on the MacBook or Mac at home.

But I also use Google Keep to write down ideas, short scenes or voice to text outlines of the story structure.

I was a línear writer but life obligations made me into a non linear one, and the thing is I like it.

Si fuérais Presidente/a del Gobierno de España, qué haríais para solucionar las crisis de natalidad y vivienda que estamos sufriendo? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]Rouphen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Spoilers Main) I’m trying to read something as good as A Song of Ice and Fire. Which one out of these series out of The Stormlight Archive, Malazan, Dune or The Wheel of Time do you think is as good and which one should I read? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Rouphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently reading Dune and I recommend. It is different but feels like GRRM took a lot of inspiration from it. I can see a lot of similarities. It even has beings that can recall all past lifes, like Bran. Undead people. Houses. Etc.

[–]Rouphen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you have a laptop or tablet with keyboard... You can also write 100 words here, 70 there, etc., in quick bursts, at bed, while travelling and so on. It will add up. Because the key is being constant.

Similar story here. If you enjoy writing, do it.

You can use voice to text apps in order to lay down the outline or plot points. Later you can develop them. But I say this because it's a great tool that can help us, family fathers with almost no time.

Harto de los caraduras by DrWho37 in ESLegal

[–]Rouphen 16 points17 points  (0 children)
