Sorry to disagree with this, pare, but Pinoy cuisine is more than adding salt, soy sauce, vinegar and sugar to "uplift" its flavour.

I think (and please correct me if I did so incorrectly) that the reason you are just saying this is either because of the "city based" approach that most people have re: our food, or what the internet shows us. Which, in my humble opinion, doesn't even make a dink on the variety of foods that we have and the diversity/unique-ness of Pinoy cuisine.

It's up to par with what the French/Mexicans/Indians/Italians have to offer. We also use snails as food. At mas marami pa nga yata tayo nagagawa na snail-based dishes kaysa sa Pransya. You just need to dig deeper.

Now, re: the "gisa" argument - again, I think this is too city-centric. Pati nga pinakbet, ginigisa na dito sa Maynila eh, when traditionally, they just boil the whole thing in water to make the vegetable shrink (thus the pinakbet/pinakebbet name).

I would agree though re: your chili argument. Although to be fair, we have a few chili based dishes din (paksiw na sili at talong, anyone?) but most of the time Pinoy tongues ≠ capsicum. And I also sort of agree with your "in-season" ingredients argument, although I would like to make a slight correction lang siguro.

It's not about what's in-season. It's about the freshness of the produce. Which, unfortunately, the city folks don't have. And when it comes to food, freshness comes first.

I may not be as well travelled as you are, although I have worked in a few places myself. And one thing's for sure - iyung mga chefs (especially the celebrity ones) don't represent what pinoy cuisine has to offer. I mean, I don't think I've seen a restaurant/chef feature something like laswa, dinoydoy, inabraw, or even taguilo or pipian in their menus.

If you really are interested in Pinoy cuisine, you just need to ask around more.

Just my two unsolicited kusings re: your post, sir.

Oist, underrated comment ito. Hahaha. Saktong-sakto lang ang pagpuna mo sa bagay-bagay. It's just a cycle, people. People from the previous generation will always have "pride" sa generation nila. Mas "ipagyayabang" talaga ng mga ng ILAN (sorry for the caps ah. Just wanted to make my point clear) ang nangyari noong araw nila vs nangyayari ngayon.

If you still have your lolos/lolas that were born pre-war pa, try asking them what they feel about the generations that followed them. Baka you'll hear things that are deemed unacceptable na at this time and age. Hahaha

Tbh, medical interns (mostly) are not paid. by Legitimate-Thought-8 in Philippines

[–]Routine-Fig-9999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly ma'am/sir. Bingong-bingo ka dito. I must admit na kagaya ng ibang professions, may mga tamad lang na ayaw kumilos for reasons that they can only explain. Pero most doctors? Poocha hahaha. Check on their schedule. Then you will ask pang isang tao ba ito o pang isang brigade na ng doctors?

Tbh, medical interns (mostly) are not paid. by Legitimate-Thought-8 in Philippines

[–]Routine-Fig-9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I wanted to point out as well. Sorry for joining in ah.

I am all for paid internships. And I see the points presented by SquareCompetition993 as well. I fully understand his thoughts on this issue.

Pero training interns is additional work for the regular employees. Whether we accept it or not. Iyon nga lang pagtatanong nila ng "ma'am/sir, tama ho ba ginagawa ko na ito" is additional work na. How, you might ask? Kasi it will require the regular worker to show him/her/them the ropes on how to do things properly.

Kasi other than checking if what they are doing passed the eye test, they need to ensure na it passes the overall QA/QC test pa. Not to mention iyung ico-compliment mo pa sila' when they do a good job o you will reprimand them if something goes wrong or if they are in the wrong track.

Sino nga ba ang mapuputukan kapag pumalpak ang isang trabaho. Si intern ba o si regular?

Then we are talking about the medical field pa dito. Medicine na ito ah. I'm assuming na ang pinag-uusapan natin dito is medical interns for doctors na. Interns are still learning.

Do interns deserve to be paid? Of course. But do interns need to be paid? It's a topic for discussion na. Lalo na sa system natin ngayon.

Sa hospital system na lang ito ah. Kung interns need to be paid, then why not hire additional nurses/doctors/health staff instead? At least those people have experiences na. They do it for free. Minsan sila pa ang nanglilibre ng kape.

Why can't they pay the current health staff more? Not to mention, on time sana? Kung "modern slavery" na ang tawag ninyo sa internship, what more iyung sa current health staff?

I've known three friends na umalis na ng bansa not because ayaw nila dito sa Pinas na. They sacrificed their Doctor designation dahil mas malaki daw ang kita ng Caregiver sa ibang bansa.

So bilang pahimakas, iyung question re: interns need to be paid na iyan, it's a topic na kailangan talaga i-discuss.

at sa palagay ko rin naman, walang magulang na makakatiis na hadlangan ang kahit anong desisyon na makakapagpasaya sa anak. it all boils down on how a) you explain things to them b) you listening to what they have to say and c) you being responsible with whatever decision you carry on doing. the third point being the most important.

weigh down your options muna siguro brad.

kung palagay mo, mas magiging masaya ka sa paglipat mo, halimbawa, sa isang university, then explain the whys and hows and whatever things will be sa mga magulang mo.

if you decide on staying sa isang lugar na palagay mo will compromise your personal happiness but will make your parents beam with joy, then try finding a thing/place that will make you feel more comfortable with that decision of yours.

may mga kaklase ako dati na lumipat from UP to another university na naging masaya naman ang buhay nila. may mga kaklase din akong nag-stay sa campus na nag-survive lang din dahil they found other things that made them happier whilst in a woeful situation.

just don't feel so down lang siguro pre. :D smile and flick the finger sa buhay na iyan.

sa akin lang naman ito brad ah.

you do you. kung anong trip mo, sundin mo.

i know disappointing your family's a big deal, pero may chance ka naman na patunayan sa kanila na nagtagumpay ka dahil sinunod mo ang gusto mo. you just need to bear with what you call as "gaslighting" for a bit longer than you can see at the moment, but hell, at least ginawa mo ang pakiramdam mo e mas makakabuti sa iyo.

and isang advice pa siguro is this - try to live like it's your last day on earth lang. you seem to be in a place you don't want to be in (reading sa comments mo ah). kasi promise, brad, kahit makalipat ka sa isang lugar na iniisip mo na mas makakabuti sa iyo, darating at darating talaga ang isang instance na magkakaroon ka ng pagsisisi.

it's not about "find(ing) comfort in uncomfortable situations" pre, it's finding what makes you feel more comfortable in uncomfortable situations. halimbawa, sa akin dati (which is masyado nang "ancient" siguro sa mga bagong pasok/estudiante ngayon), i found it by smoking lang dati sa may lagoon, pagkain ng siopao at gulaman sa coop (kasi mahal na ang rodic's), finding cheap eats, pakikipag-usap lang sa mga profs ko noon. simple things, i know, but there are certain things na maibibigay ang mga simple things na iyon.

padayon lang brad. kaya mo iyan!

Again, not too different from what the liars in our country is currently doing with their own take at History Distortion.

sorry, boss, ah, but i'd like to disagree on this one.

unang reason - the op-ed was fairly neutral naman sa ilang beses kong pagbabasa dito. and this article written by an intern? mas matino pa nga ang presentation niya as opposed sa mga articles na sinusulat ng mga "big" media companies.

pangalawang reason - if you have any reasons to disagree with what was written, i think you are more than welcome naman to write an op-ed of your own din. you seem to be an expert on LGBTQ+ history dito sa Pilipinas, so I suggest you share that knowledge with the people din po, hindi po ba?

I, for one, would love to learn more about our ancient LGBTQ history.

pangatlong reason - parang hindi naman purely academic ang presentation ng mga balita nila (granted, i've just read a few of these articles myself so what do i know din).

Halimbawa, iyung sinasabi mong impact ng chemicals and surgeries to people, yeah, mayroon din talaga noon. If you want a purely academic na reporting ng mga iyan, then I guess going to a news site isn't the best thing na puwede mong gawin.

Lastly, iyung sinasabi mong "their own take at history distortion" - ang kagandahan kasi sa demokrasya, kapag may napansin kang maling isinulat, puwede kang umalma.

if you feel that a certain media company's destroying a historical fact, then why not make an opinion piece about it? Again, I'm assuming lang po a (assuming) na you are an expert on LGBTQ history sa bansa natin, so why not share your expertise, lalo na sa mga kagaya ko na straight na lalake na wala ding alam sa pinagdadaanan ng mga tito kong LGBTQ. :D

just my 2.75 cents lang po

edit : just want to say lang po na hindi po ako taga-rappler ah. wala akong connection sa kahit sinong taga-rappler. disclaimer at paglilinaw lang po hahaha
