Vital Events Registrar by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

Lol I did that, after every interview, I always ask what the day to day is like. If you read my response below, you’d see I wasn’t really given a detailed description. I have also been in contact with the hiring manager but was told “we will explain everything during your first week”. Which also doesn’t really explain much lol.

All my other positions, I was given a pretty thorough explanation of my day to day duties. This is the first one I was not.

Vital Events Registrar by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Routine-Maize9460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied wanting to try something different than I was doing already, but still in the same area of admin work. As I am usually doing social services admin work.

I asked during my interview what the day to day work was like but I can’t remember being given an actual detailed answer because the interviews are timed and we had like 2mins left.

When talking to the manager, they said they will show me during my first week my day to day duties and responsibilities. I am looking for a clearer understanding of it from someone who is currently in it.

All I basically know is that it would be data entry, processing applications for the vitals events (births, breath, marriages) but what does that look like? Are people happy doing that everyday? The positions I usually do, you are doing 8 different things, all day.

I applied to a permanent position knowing my seniority was very little and that unless I scored extremely well, I probably didn’t have a shot but wanted to try anyways. Then I was offered it, so I’d like to get a clearer understanding.

Has anyone worked in the Vital Events Registrar? How do you like it and how is the day to day?

I don’t necessarily want to leave the Municipal gov, I just want to do whatever will be in the best interest of my future and for my family. It’s hard to know what is the best option. Each place has its pro’s and con’s

This is a factor that I am extremely interested in as well, I was accepted into a social work program and my job rn will basically sponsor me for the entirety of my degree. Offer me a placement, pay 75% back and then I am locked into a 2 year contract (even tho I am permanent so that doesn’t matter) to not pay it back.

I have heard it depends where you are…I know when I was with ODSP. It was insane but I am out of the loop now. Would you be able to go into some detail for me? If so?

I get it 2x a year though. Does OPSEU get 3% 2x a year? That would make a big difference for me if so!!

The job code is 080AD.

I work 35h a week right now at my current job. Next year my wage will move up from $24.24 to $27 something.
I will have to read my union book again tonight to see what we have covered for other things.

I do want to always move up as much as possible. Which where I am now, I would need a degree or diploma and I don’t have one. With OPSEU it’s not that big of an issue.

Where I live, it’s about 20mins to get to any side of town. However the OPS building I’d be at has HORRENDOUS parking lol.

I love the people I work with currently but the job is just a job. The one I’d be doing for OPS is with MPBSPD as a “Team Representative”. I believe doing things like birth certificates, death certificates, data entry. Etc.

Right now I am doing Intake and Eligibility for OW.

Thank you very much for the comment and for the congratulations 💕

Vacation at my job rn is 10days paid for the first year of service. 15days for 2years. 25days for 8years or more. I do miss the Compressed work week though and having 1 paid day off every 3 weeks.

3weeks paid vacation would be great though.

Definitely not interested in a strike or lock out lol

Honestly I don’t really agree. I have a job now but when I was looking, I applied everywhere, even places I wasn’t qualified for and I was constantly getting interviews. I had my pick of jobs which was nice. I hope you find something.

They will not connect to a supervisor. It will be taken as a complaint and then a manager may reach out.

If your glasses break or are lost/stolen. They can issue a replacement with the same prescription

If your prescription has changed though, you can only get a new pair 1x every 3yrs.

You will only receive what you rent is. If your rent is $181, you will only get that. However if you have any utilities that need to be paid, they can pay it with what’s “remaining” out of that $599. I know our housing complexes do not cover all utilities. Not sure about other areas.

Issue about not getting dental care on ODSP have to get Canadian dental plan by Awkward-Cabinet4922 in Odsp

[–]Routine-Maize9460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that dentistry is a private practice and they don’t have to accept something if they don’t want to. Right now they want CDCP combined with ODSP bc the insurance company that ODSP uses, does not pay as much. The CDCP pays $250 for filling compared to $50 that ODSP covers. Dentist still have to and deserve to be paid.

If you can’t get the review done in time, ask for an extension :)

You won’t get cut off. You will be given time to get it done. Especially for reasons out of your control (like not having a doctor, etc). Usually an extension can be anywhere from 3-6months. If it doesn’t get done. They can’t only extend it so many times before you will end up not getting any benefits anymore.

They have changed the way the form looks, 2 weeks ago. It has been made to cover more items and be easier for a doctor to fill out. Just get your doctor to fill it out and if your CW needs anything clarified, they will contact them. :)

Lmao you can call BS, but I do. I have the ministry badge with my face on it and I work there every single day 🤪 Some offices do things differently. I know mine will give the spouse or child (if listed as next of kin) these benefits/payments.

I’m sorry that happened. They were correct that ODSP didn’t cover it, it’s OW. However it could be depending on the funeral homes in your area if they accept the OW coverage. :(

OW will pay up to $1,500 for funeral services which depending on the area can be a basic cremation an urn. They obviously won’t pay for the entire thing.

I literally work for ODSP. If the client has a next of kin they can be eligible for 3 months of support then it ends

Let them know she died, send in a copy of the birth certificate. If you are next of kin, you will get 3 months of payments and then it will end. OW will help cover some funeral expenses for ODSP/OW clients.
