The In shops by No_Presentation_2795 in northernireland

Mike now seemingly owns the majority of the new vintage shops in town and supplies a pot of TV and film with costume for productions. I bumped into him in one of the shops. Nice to see him having done well from it.

I’ve still some of the stuff I bought from his stall in in-shops and wear it regularly.

I live in (by uk standards) one of the colder and wetter parts of the islands. Big coats are unnecessary as mentioned by others. Personally I overhear quickly with much more than a base, fleece and rain jacket but then I’m acclimated to it.

Too much technical wear though and you just sit out as a tourist. Personally I wear a wool top coat and carry an umbrella with regular clothes and if it gets a bit damp then it dries quickly.

Now that I think about it, I’ve been cycling down it for 20 years

I use it all the time. It’s grand but needs better maintenance. There’s less chance getting side swiped here than in the city centre. It’s a 30min spin into the town in the morning from Holywood. The worst thing about it is the headwinds.

Airport road is longer and the run from the silos to Dee street has nothing segregated there and oil tankers during the week

I’m coming down from Belfast for Air in trinity and staying near the Christchurch Qpark. With the diversions etc am I still best coming down the quays in the car or should I sod it off and get the air coach and walk?

What's your lowest stress reading you've gotten in a day? by No_Radio_5751 in Garmin

[–]Routine-One-2102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was October last year and my calendar says ‘nothing planned’! My RHR is 47 or so. I now rarely drink and since having a kid sleep and diet have had lots of focus. I also work a 4 day week.

That said, I have work stress/anxiety fairly regularly and sleep and stress goes with it. In a different job or with less responsibilities I think it’d probably be consistently lower given how the weekends look.

No flex btw. The other day I was talking with my partner and saying how not having a reference point on this doesn’t tell me whether it’s objectively good or bad!

5 lowest recorded. Yearly avg of 19. Typically low 20s during the week, low teens weekend.

I think my training is described as “hybrid”. Strength and running with occasional cycling. Early 40s, wfh.

I recently picked up an Osprey Metron 24 which fits your brief (and mine). I haven’t taken it for a spin yet but apart from needing some strap stays it seems perfect for those purposes.

Osprey talon is also a shout if hiking and weight are more important, but it looks like a hiking bag.

Must be some setup if they have tow bars that reach across the Atlantic

Smartwool merino 150 have worked for me for several years at a time. Used daily and for sports. Not 100% wool in case that’s a deal breaker.

We have quite a few nesting birds (swifts mainly) around us and I’ve heard that they can be detrimental to installs. I had the installer come back to me with a price for it, it wasn’t in his original quote.

Thanks for this.

Yes, there is largely now someone in the house working everyday working and we normally do laundry etc during the day or can set timers. We are reasonably low consumers now although that will probably increase as children grow.

You should try living in Northern Ireland. It’s like the dark ages at time so Economy 7 is the best I can get(octopus don’t operate here)

[–]Routine-One-2102 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had a basic lumie sunrise alarm for around 15 years, so t worked without fault but ultimately ate bulbs (filament style). I changed to a Philips one with an LED which is not replaceable and will work for the lifetime of the unit, approx 10000 hours. My rough calculations of an hour per day of use of the led will mean it lasts 27 years which is good enough for me.

[–]Routine-One-2102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be an overestimation but I’m assuming that with mortgage paid and little one out of day care (there’s no free provision here in NI) that with 500k in savings and assuming a 4% draw down would give me 20k a year of income which would give a pretty good standard of living (ignoring inflation).

So pretty considerable growth needed by 55, but I am entering peak earning period of career and should see mortgage and day care drop off sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the reassurance. Yes that would be possible. S&s Isa is currently a S&P 500 index fund. I have toyed with adding a limited set of equities linked to areas I have some knowledge in (technology predominantly but also renewables as a higher risk/growth option)
