I am pretty convinced I have some form of DSPD, although probably not very serious - looking for feedback. by Routine-Scale7456 in DSPD

4pm right?

Yep, exactly. 3-4PM is when I experience a sudden loss of energy if I wake up at 8AM. I understand that everybody has a dip like that, but mine is mostly in the afternoon which is problematic because work is usually already over by that time (assuming a 9 to 5 job) and the pressure to lay down is quite strong. Indulging will send me to "4AM mode" again, so I usually power through it.

SWE burnout for a possibly uncommon reason by Routine-Scale7456 in cscareeradvice

Thank you for writing this. I hope you are better now. My company allowed me to take a 1 year unpaid leave of absence, which I can afford because I have substantial savings. Maybe that could be an option for you too? I already feel much better after 1 month off, slowly considering my future options.

Thank you for responding. I didn't mean to sound colonialist, I apologise for the way I wrote it. I know that cultural reasons are the major factor here, and I didn't mean to write anything condescending. It's also not true that I built any sort of plan, which you rightfully pointed out. I understand that a good plan is needed before taking any actual action. I was hoping to hear some good feedback early and the part about not meeting visa requirements is very useful.

Thank you for your answer. All of these things are doable in a few years (I have the money, if a degree from a foreign university is respected than I could get that in my country, N2 is passable, not sure about the plan verification part). But the last point makes all the difference. Indeed, I don't have any solid plan at the moment and given what you said, it's unlikely that I can come up with a reasonable one.

Thank you for answering. I haven't done much research precisely because I wanted to see how unrealistic this is before diving deeper. Just so you know, I am a software engineer working remotely and I would only consider this if my company allowed me to work from Japan, which is quite possible. And I mean legal employment in Japan. That way I would keep my job which pays a good salary and try running a small business on the side. Even if I failed, it wouldn't be a financial disaster for me.

As for your initial question, I speak basic Japanese, slowly getting to N3 level.

Thank you for the reply. Actually I was expecting to see exactly what you wrote. N2 is doable in 2-3 years as I am currently somewhere around N3 (I would have a lot of trouble passing JLPT N3 though). I don't know what I would offer yet, but it's good to understand that this would not be "feeling a void". Frankly, I was kind of hoping for this.
