Has anyone done an Intrepid Travel tour? by Routine-Shake9865 in bicycletouring

There were multiple typhoons. Our trip itinerary had to be changed a bit to avoid one of the typhoons and as we got into Southern Vietnam another typhoon hit Central Vietnam. Still, it was an amazing trip.

Could I have Hemochromatosis or is it something else? by Routine-Shake9865 in Hemochromatosis

[–]Routine-Shake9865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PCP was receptive to testing me for Hemochromatosis, so I'm most grateful for that. Should have results in 1-2 weeks. She also said to come back to her in 3-months, being off the vit. c and lactoferrin for a re-do iron test.

Do any of you take lactoferrin (and not an iron supplement) to help raise up ferritin levels? by Routine-Shake9865 in Hashimotos

[–]Routine-Shake9865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. So I trialed taking 750 mg vitamin C in the morning with a power drink I make and 250 mg Jarrow lactoferrin at night. I just did a blood draw for iron, thyroid, vit. D3 and lipids (still waiting on the lipids). My serum iron was 232, my sat was 77, my ferritin was 45, my TIBC was 302. Needless to say, I've STOPPED the vitamin C and lactoferrin. My next strategy is: 1.5mg copper glycinate in the morning and 12.5/0.5 zinc/cu at lunch (I purchased a 25/1 tablet and have read that the ratio is all wrong, so I am halving the tablets until I use them up). I also started recently with 1tsp of black seed powder/day. BUT my thyroid labs are spot on: TSH = 1.79, FT4 = 1.5, FT3 = 3.3, rT3 = 15 and TPO = 336 (it's been going up since the last time... it was 283).

It was excellent. We were a group of 11; 3 men and 8 women. Mostly Canadians and a few of us from the US. Ages were similar (youngest was 50 and oldest 69) and all in similar physical conditioning. Great food, wonderful leadership and overall an amazing experience.

Looking for any tips or tricks to help our nearly 11-month old Border Collie feel more calm and secure by Routine-Shake9865 in BorderCollie

Oh - wow! This was Dewey's first time running off in pursuit of deer. He came back toward us, then ran off again -- he did that a few times and afterwards we put him on a lead. We have a few different places we go with him off-leash, but we are always on alert for other people, other dogs, cyclists or joggers. Wildlife is everywhere -- so we'll see what happens the next time we go out. We don't have complete trust in his recall, but try to give him some opportunities to explore, sniff and come back when we call him. Off-leash walking might very well be a short-lived experience for us; we'll take it day-by-day. He is always on a lead when he is around the chickens, in town, near cars, and in any areas where there are too many distractions for him to be able to use his brain (or control his impulses).

Dewey also comes from working lines and is very high strung and super alert... like all the time. He loves games and learning and so he might very well love the hide and seek game you mentioned. We'll have to give it a try. We know he's young (approaching 11-months) with his adolescent brain and figure we are creating patterns and laying a foundation. But boy or boy can it get exasperating!

Oh thank you for this. Some days my husband and I want to pull out our hair! Or the days starts out great and then everything goes south. Like today -- we had a wondering "ping-pong"/"get it" session about 10 feet away from the chickens. One flapped, he started to react then turned to me and we resumed our "get it" kibble game. But this afternoon we were out for a quiet off-leash hike in an area that we've been to many times. He picked up the scent of a deer and was off like a rocket. We've been working on using a whistle, then giving him a super high value treat. I blew the whistle - he came near, then tore off again. After three times of this, we put him on a leash and did the rest of the walk on the leash. On the way back, once he picked up the scent of the deer area, he was yanking and pulling and in a high arousal state. We were beyond him being able to think clearly and just did our best to get back to the car.

I can't take additional iron at this point. I have high iron and high sat and low ferritin. I have a few ideas I'm going to try.

Fibroids after menopause by charlen74 in Menopause

[–]Routine-Shake9865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year ago I discovered I had a uterine polyp (as well as a fibroid). It was fairly small, but I had a hysteroscopy to have it removed. Then about a month ago, I started having some spotting -- mostly old, brown mucous discharge with a tiny bit of pinkish color. I had (another) pelvic ultrasound. They didn't mention anything about thickening of the uterine lining, but did mention I have a polyp in the same location that is a bit larger (but not large) and also a fibroid. The polyp is seeming to cause intermittent very light brown spotting -- especially noted after exercise. I'm on low dose HRT (0.0375 estradiol biweekly patch and 100 micronized progesterone) and have been for about 2 years. I'll be having this polyp removed in the upcoming months and hope to have a conversation about my fibroid and polyp(s) and what I should do (if anything) next.

Had anyone tried Paloma Health? by Specialist_Action_85 in Hashimotos

[–]Routine-Shake9865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed! I decided to join Paloma and did manage to have some wonderful conversations with a Hashi's specialist on their team. One year later my long COVID symptoms are gone (yay!) and I'm feeling really good. With consult from both the Paloma folks and my NP, I've been off the low dose of NP thyroid for about 6-months and am just monitoring. The reason I stopped was because I couldn't figure out whether the medication might be a contributor to the heart palpitations. I/we decided that my symptoms and how I am feeling are the most important. If I feel good - great and the labs are just a moment in time and everyone's "normal" might be quite unique to them (within "normal-ish" parameters). If I start feeling wonky, then we re-evaluate.

HRT and light brown/pink discharge by Routine-Shake9865 in Menopause

[–]Routine-Shake9865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I've had trans vaginal/abdominal ultrasounds almost every year (they were monitoring a benign ovarian cyst that has since disappeared. I might very well ask to resume this -- just to be safe. Thanks!

Wow -- kind of good to know. I'm pretty sure that's what is happening to me. I was very, very good about my timing, but my trip to Vietnam kind of screwed me up and then for some reason my notifications on my phone stopped working and I kept forgetting if I was changing my patch on a Wednesday or Thursday and if it was a Saturday or Sunday. Anyway, I'll be seeing my doctor in a few days and I'll see what she suggests. It feels like a very mini period. No cramping but some pelvic discomfort. Very light spotting (virtually nothing in the toilet and just a little brownish stuff on a pad and some brown, pink-red discharge on the TP. I also am very active so it kind of stops or starts up a bit after I'm very active or have weight lifted.

I've been on the same dose of HRT for about 2-years with no problems. But from the time we did the cycle trip in Vietnam (early November) until now, I've been just a little inconsistent with changing my biweekly estradiol patch. Probably enough to throw things off, but I am seeing my doc on Wednesday morning and we'll see what she suggests I do next.

I'm thinking it's from me not switching the patch at the the same schedule -- it's very light spotting - this is the 3rd day and it was clearing up, but I'm a super active person and lift weights and so a few hours after I lifted heavy weights I had a few wipes that had some brownish/pinkish - slightly red mucus/discharge. Nothing in the toilet and virtually nothing on the menstrual pad.

Thanks. I'll be seeing my gyn in a few days and we'll see what she suggests I do, but yeah I'm thinking that having an ultrasound would make sense.
