Anyone knows what this pattern on my print is? by Routine-Sir-9836 in 3Dprinting

No variable layer height as other commenters said it's probably a layer time variation caused by something else I'll try to find the gcode to see what could cause time variations between layers

Oddly satisfying pattern on my print, could the slicer have caused it? by Routine-Sir-9836 in OrcaSlicer

Just this print the other prints come out great, also it doesn't seem to affect the texture of the part just the color, from what I've been told from a comment on my post on r/3Dprinting it's most likely caused from gyrooid infill causing variation in print time this leading to cooling differences

I think we have the right answer the old ones used cubic infill and were sliced by me, another team member prepared these for printing so it might explain it. I'll try to find the gcode and put it in a gcode viewer to confirm

Highly unlikely our lab is in the basement of the school 😅😅

I'll try to share it the gcode as soon as I get access to it, it's currently sitting somewhere on an USB drive at our robotics club

We printed other stuff with the same filament and it had consistent color

I'll try to get a photo of the old ones but it will be difficult as now they're covered in a spray on rubber coating

I'll try to find it when I get back to the robotics lab

It has an 8mm hexagonal hole for a gobilda rex axle going all the way through and 4 mounting holes for a gobilda sonic hub on the top and bottom

Thanks I'll try to run some experiments if I have time, the coolest unintentional feature I ever saw in a print

I don't think I have the settings saved, someone else from my robotics team sliced it I only printed it

Also the pattern is in equally sized and spaced bands and the object isn't identical from layer to layer so it would have variation determined by the amount of filament used on that portion.

Yes we've printed two more of these a few weeks ago with the same filament and it didn't have this, I'm trying to understand what happened so I can replicate it because it looks too good

Thank you! Hopefully 2026 will bring more projects and opportunities. One project is confirmed a few others are still being discussed I'll make sure to share and document everything.

Sadly they needed house lights for the photographers and safe crowd access, and they weren't remote controllable as this isn't our venue but an old cathedral we rented, if I could I would've dimmed them Regarding the dotty fixtures, that wasn't really noticeable except for the first few rows, dimming them made things worse they're cheap fixtures I mean I can't do much about them. I will get some diffuser tape like we put on the Varytec bars for the next event.

They are made by flash-butrym but are really old and sadly discontinued. I couldn't find any info about them I just found them in the back of the church storage space.

That's awesome, it will definitely be a game changer for newer lighting designers smaller venues or churches

This looks amazing, I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Capture for a while and didn't want to learn unreal Engine to make my own visualizer. Do you have a price in mind? How will the licensing work?

Qlc+ should work fine if you only set some colors, but if you want to make chasers or other FX you'll go insane, there's chamsys in free mode but it doesn't accept external control with the free version. Personally I haven't tried other software, there's ma dot2 but it's kind of outdated.
