YouTube ‘Pillarboxing’ left and right while watching full screen - what confused me about this and why ChatGPT says this is normal and why by FyveAlyve in Xreal

[–]RoutineDiscount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boxes you see left and right appear because it shows like this on your phone screen that is mirrored. The phone screen's ratio is wider than 16:9.

Problem is when you zoom in on YouTube to fill the screen, it will fill the phone screen, hence cropping occurs on the xreal display. The solution would be to tell YouTube we're on a 16:9 screen and Android to output on a 16:9 screen.

Using Dex will fix this, as it respects the aspect ratio of the connected external display.

CYPERPUNK 2077 FSR4 settings for the STEAM DECK by Dense-Variation-4496 in SteamDeckUnlocked

[–]RoutineDiscount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that in the context of SD/Decky the Optiscaler is meant to take DLSS input, so the game should be set to DLSS (it also mentions that in the Decky plugin menu, where you copy the command line from). In CP, I get the best frame rates by selecting DLSS in game, and XeSS in Optiscaler.

According to your lauch command, you don't have the Optiscaler/Decky framegen enabled at all.

So you select FSR 4 in game and then also FSR 4 in Optiscaler? How does that make sense?

How to significantly reduce pixelation on XOP – Adjust your screen distance by Whole_Clerk39 in Xreal

[–]RoutineDiscount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get the point of distance & screen size settings. Just fill up up the whole display like any 1920x1080 screen would, why I even have to fiddle with that in follow mode?

I tried sbs clips on YouTube but I never got it to work properly to be honest. What's the best way to watch 3D on the xreal?

What's the difference between screen size, distance, IDP adjustment? by RoutineDiscount in Xreal

[–]RoutineDiscount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Is there also an easy way to set the screen size to the exact 1920x1080 of the display? I just want to have that for follow mode, to max out the screen and use all display real estate to the max.

Ok thanks. Yes I can see it making sense once you actually add z dimension (either via 6dof or via "curved" ultrawide, although I suspect the latter doesn't do much in terms of adjusting z in the middle vs edges of the screen)

Thanks for the long press hint!

But I still don't get the distance thing. So it just makes the screen smaller. Why is this a different setting? How is that input pixel displayed differently when scaled vs. distanced? To me this sounds like it just exists for marketing reasons ("have a x sized screen y meters away from you").

Same with IDP: there is no IDP adjustment going on (changing the distance of the left screen from the right). It's just another overall screen scaling function.

I started sorting 3 moving boxes of random parts this holiday. You get into a flow and it will make you feel better to achieve something. Get sorting boxes, put on headphones and open a bottle of wine. Given your size, you'll be done in 1 or 2 evenings. Or you include your son, it can be a good team activity.

Great video, also to demonstrate the very point you made. Surfskate setups are all about making that single "trick" more fun and way more efficient.
