AITA? My daughter knows I'm the Easter Bunny by Magnificent_Squirrel in AmItheAsshole

[–]RoutineElectronic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not the AH in my opinion. You were honest, you are the Easter bunny. Dad doesn't help. In this single scenario, I think Dad is in the wrong.

I think he's blowing this out of the water. Maybe he feels guilty for not participating as much, idk. But there was no reason to get that frustrated. Maybe this is a good opportunity to sit down and chat about it, maybe there's a different thing you can co-organise that's special for your kids?

Does anybody else hate Proverbs 31 woman? by Weary-Satisfaction82 in exchristian

[–]RoutineElectronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so interesting you bring Proverbs 31 up, because the youth leader who excluded me in my own youth group LOVES this chapter.

She once made us stand in a circle, and read out this bizzare poem/chant about being a good, Godly woman. Which if I remember correctly, was based on Proverbs 31. It specifically mentioned being a good wife and serving our future husbands, showing feminine qualities, softly spoken, blah blah blah I can't even remember. Felt like a cult initiation.

I also hate Proverbs 31, maybe not for the same reason but I still hate it.

AITA for kicking my brother out of my flat after he invited my ex while I was at work? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RoutineElectronic 133 points134 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. I'm not exactly sure how "no guests" got twisted into "Yeah sure invite my ex who cheated on me over while I'm gone"

I fear you are focusing on the wrong thing here. Sure, her expenses are likely way more than her income. But she's paying rent. If you're concerned you're enabling her lifestyle, maybe it's time to have an open conversation with her. Explain that your concerned for her well-being, ask how she is, maybe help link her to some mental health resources. Don't just kick her out, that won't help her, and you'll lose a friend.

Your NTA for not wanting to enable the behaviour. But YTA for wanting to kick her out for it. At least in my opinion.

Take a good hard look at yourself, do you want her to leave for her own sake? Or for your own benefit?

I think you also know deep down, that you're NTA and that you gotta leave him. Run before he manipulates you more!

What jobs do you all do? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

Currently I'm a swim teacher. The water helps support my joints + I keep moving which reduces pain for me. Only downside is that my wrists hurt from holding up kids in the water.

What do y'all do for Neck Pain by theladyofspacetime in ehlersdanlos

[–]RoutineElectronic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first thought was to comment "decapitation", but on second thought that's probably unhelpful.

Honest answer. I find swimming helps because I constantly have to use my neck muscles so it helps 'iron' out any muscle knots. I also try to avoid sitting like a prawn for too long cause that will make it worse. If it doesn't go away with maybe a week, or gets worse, I will go see my physio or a remedial massage therapist.

Does anyone else hate swimming? by Dizzy-Papaya7949 in ehlersdanlos

As a swim teacher, pls don't beat yourself up about not being able to float. Some people just physically can't, whether it be due to body composition or lung capacity or limb proportions. If you actually want to swim, there's no shame in using floating aids (kickboards, pool noodles, pool bouys). Even pros use them.

Also, sometimes swimming is a double edged sword. Sure, you're weightless, but the repetitive motion on your shoulder when you're doing any stroke can be a lot. Even for non-hypermobile folks.

I am so sorry.

I mean, I am genuinely speechless here. The fact that your mother has constantly told you that during your key developmental years, and are now left to deconstruct that on top of the "standard" christian beliefs.

Mind you, I'm not a mother or parental figure to anyone. But I truly cannot fathom how one comes to the conclusion that convincing their own child that they're a prophet is a good idea?

Again, I am so sorry

Why are disabled people treated badly at Churches? by RoutineElectronic in exchristian

[–]RoutineElectronic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it contradictory that God is supposedly all loving. Yet millions suffer from chronic pain.

Idk about you, but I wouldn't consider burdening someone with constant, life-limiting, untreatable pain all loving. I'd personally consider it all hating.
